Default o2 IP help, Should i get a dongle

hi does anyone in the uk have o2 broadband. It seems that you cant change the dynamic ip address. Even if u turn off and on, which for most routers will work.

So i guess its either dial up , which i dont want, or its either something like a dongle, can anyone suggest something like £10-£15 a month

ok i figured it out, for anyone on o2 broadband to change ure ip you must change your Mac Address, let me know if anyone needs help with this

good to see you have solved the problem, I use hyper terminal and a simple script to change mine, it's a pretty straight forward way to change between IPs.

can u explain how that works jimbo, cuz for to change mac addresses everytime is a bit of a pain, cuz am going through telnet

hi there

No problem. What I do is use Hyperterminal Private edition v6.3 from Hilgrave. Good thing about this telnet software is that you can cut n paste your commands from a word doc with ease.

Kick start the software and connect via the ip address of the router. Log in under the SuperUser account and you then are greeted by the command prompt.

From here I just cut n paste the following commands, you can do it one by one or as I do the whole thing from first line to saveall. (x = your chosen hex digits)

ip iflist
ip ifdetach intf=O2_ADSL2plus
ip ifconfig intf=O2_ADSL2plus hwaddr=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
ip ifattach intf=O2_ADSL2plus
saveall

to change back you just start all over again using another set of the above commands with your original mac address inserted after HWADDR=.

I take you can find your current ADSL port mac address ok.

I also keep a copy of this script in the same spreadsheet for when I am recording the Ips I have been assigned and what accounts have used them etc

Hi Greenbean,

I also use a TST10.exe batch script which is a lot simpler where I have a shortcut for each ip / account, i use either depending on what pc I am working from.

I have set up 2 folders (one to change to a new ip and another folder with files to run to change back), and it couldn;t be any simpler. I can upload these to rapidshare if needed and all you would have to do is change the xx:xx:xx:xx in place for the mac address and if needed your router ip address in the txt files in each folder. Then from here you just copy and paste the 2 folders each time you want to setup a new set of shortcuts

Couldn't help but here are the batch files, (all clean and good to go), to perform quick MAC / IP addresses changes on the O2 Wireless router.

RapidShare Webhosting + Webspace

Just read the read me file first as the xx:xx:xx:xx need changing to your desired macs

ok jimbo i was doing the same, so its best to note down mac address and ips for each account, as then to go back to that ip you just use the same mac

Do you use the hyperterminal route or the script batch route?

Its best to log everything for each account saves any costly errors

i run telnet , log in as superuser.

Then do the following :
ip iflist
ip ifdetach intf=O2_ADSL2plus
ip ifconfig intf=O2_ADSL2plus hwaddr=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
ip ifattach intf=O2_ADSL2plus
saveall

is it safe do this tho, like by doing this wont cause any flags etc

Its fine as long as you keep good records and be methodical in your work by not using an ip & mac (plus details) with more than one ebay account.

The hyperterminal is a good route but the script version is a doddle and is my preferred method. As once you have edited the mac address in the txt file you can have an instant shortcut button to change your MAC and IP, very handy if you switch between multiple accounts alot. I use it alot for the likes of rapidshare too.

The script of the text file is the same as you enter into hyperterminal just without the need to manually do all the steps of starting HT then entering your username / password etc.

Inside each of the two folders, in the archive I uploaded to Rapidshare, are two files named:

'Click Here to Change To New MAC.bat'
&
'Click Here to Change To DEFAULT MAC.bat'

These are your buttons, you click on theses icons /files when you have edited the text file with your chosen MAC addresses (Use Digits: 0 -9 or A-F, Only)

I use a "3" mobile dongle, when i sign out of my windows user and log into my others for different accounts it auto disconnects so reconnecting when im in my next username its a different ip.. so all good! £15 a month pay as you go

jimbo thanks for your bat files, but am having some problems,

everytime i use the bat file to change the ip, the internet sometimes doesnt come back on without me resetting and factory resetting a few times, this is very annoying.

But at other times it has come back with a new ip instantly,

why is this ?
am i doing something wrong ?
also can the mac only be nums or letters as well

I can answer the MAC question for you.

MAC addresses are in hexadecimal. Base 16. Goes like this: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F then 10.

Thus, MACs are 0-F.

I can't see the use of only digits being the cause of the problem. I'd be more inclined to believe that the bat file is running faster than the device can accomodate, sometimes.

When the unit is not busy processing other things, it would handle the bat without difficulty. But if the device IS busy processing, it might be missing some of the bits and bytes, thus the device might be freezing up due to invalid or incomplete fields.

Example: If device is busy and the bat sends MAC 00:11:22:33:44:55 but the device only catches 00:1:22:33:4:55 - that would mess it up. There has to be 2 characters for every segment of the MAC. Single digits would probably freeze it.
