Address labels

Hi Guys,

I'm SICK of handwriting address labels and manually punching in tracking numbers. I feel now is the time to upgrade to a label printer. As I understand it, the label printer has to print a certain size label for Royal Mail labels. Can you guys suggest a reasonably priced and good quality label printer that works with Royal Mail labels, please!

Thanks in advance

Re: Address labels

hmm i use a normal printer and cut out the label and using clear parcel tape stick the label on (wilko £1 a roil I only use clear parcel tape for the parcel and labels same price ).

i buy postage from paypal and they print on the label the exact recipients paypal delivery address. Paypal also send ebay the tracking number so a job i dont have to do

using a cheap modelling knife (poundland for a card full of them) I cut out "my paypal return address" and have a sheet of address labels dirt cheap from ebay with my actual return address on which i stick on the label.

Mind you im not big in the game on ebay so if your profits justify it get the best printer you can.

1) It's a thermal printer, no ink required
2) the labels are free from Royal Mail
3) no cellotape required
4) no knife required
5) no paper required
6) valuable time and sanity savings.

Hey, the Zebra will even peel the backing off for you. :d

You're going to have to buy me a cup of tea and a new keyboard for number 6. :d

I wish someone as yourself had advised me five years ago. :yar:

Tinsoldier is correct. But I can understand your point if you're not moving 100 - 500+ items daily then you may need the benefits he's advocating - but it seems OP is ready to make that switch so he'd benefit.

You can get the Zebra GK420d thermal printer for around £260 but if you have a click and drop business account, royal mail is happy to subsidize it so you only pay about £150.
In my opinion, that's much better than buying a used one.

You still purchase cartridges and other supplies so there are recurring financial costs and for you - time as well because of your methods.

You can use your inkjet printers + (x in 1 A4 Sticky Labels, where x is your desired number of labels per A4 sheet) and Microsoft Mail Merge + eBay CSV to automate printing your labels. You can prepare, and print say... 100 to 500 labels in 5 - 10 minutes.

Your cost will stay the same as it is now, but your productivity will jump.
You may not need it right away, but as your business grows, you will need something of that sort in place.

By the way, buying RM labels from eBay or PayPal is a big waste of time and money. Just use click and drop, get free tracking, pay less, and save a whole lot of time.

For a big seller, it's also a good idea to have a back-up printing system as your primary printer may fail anytime. In this case, the inkjet alternative will be an inexpensive solution.

He needs a printer capable of handling 6" x 4" labels, which the zebra will. The labels are also free whereas you's have to buy them for the Dymo even if it was suitable, which it isn't. Best solution - Zebra GK420d.

Wrong the dymo xl does print 6" x 4" labels, i use it on ebay, it prints royal mail labels
The labels you get free of royal mail for zebra printer.... you have to have a account with royal mail? it would be deffo worth getting if you had large volume orders
Dymo XL prints 300 dpi as to zebra does 208 dpi
Anyway both printers are good, the zebra has more customization than the dymo and print speeds are faster which is ideal if you have a lot to print out in a short space of time,
All i gave was my suggestion and you said i was wrong? if OP said he does large volume orders i would have suggested the zebra
He's upgrading from pen and paper

In addition to getting a label printer (which is just a must if you're serious about ecommerce), you want a tool that will collect all your orders in one place from all stealth accounts, where you can print all labels with a click of a button.

Check out this thread which covers everything you need to know.
