GSP USA to UK

So im thinking of buying something from ebay.com and it shows shipping fee of $17 and customs charges of $76.

Does this customs charge mean I will not get a further charge when it arrives int he UK? or is that still subject to VAT charge? + royal mails fees?

Customs charge should include VAT and other duties

Have been googling it, and it seems a large amount of people using GSP from UK to buy from USA get hit with a further customs and VAT charge.

Im after a mobile phone, but afraid of mega customs and VAT charges. I have bought from the US before, a laptop, which was about £20 cheaper than the Uk, I ended up paying way, way more than the price in the UK, but that wasn't via GSP.

I have never used it myself, but I did think it was always ok included.

There must be a set of T&C somewhere though that outlines what is included

The fees paid are based upon the declared value. If customs decides that you/seller under valued the item deliberately in order to evade charges then one would assume they're entitled to, and going to, chase the importer for the underpayment.

If you think about it the GSP could be manipulated quite easily in an attempt to evade VAT/Duty.

That isn't the case here, or the stories i've read. The sale through GSP will show the true value, nothing can be altered in terms of value.

It seems its all paid for upfront, but, im reading up that the UK doesn't recognise GSP as a valid company to take customs and vat payment upfront. I guess GSP aren't paying UK customs and vat their share and, when it arrives in the UK, the charges apply all over again.

Just uploaded info from the auction im watching. The phones about £100 cheaper than the UK, but if theres any further charges.... It'll end up a waste of time.

I used the GSP in November for an item worth $550 and didn't get charged any additional fees when it reached the UK.

It was delivered by Hermes.
As a warning the GSP is quite slow, took a week to get to their GSP in the US, five days in their hub, 10 days flight between the US and UK, then once Hermes took hold it was delivered in 2 days.
