Re: royal mail tracking number on 2cnd class parcel query ?
1st and 2nd class mails (non-tracked service) do NOT have tracking numbers for you or your customers to trace your items. Those numbers are for internal tracking. If you're lucky, some postman is going to defy convention and scan it on delivery, but that's just pure luck.
RM 24 and 48 however, have got tracking numbers or to put it more correctly, delivery confirmation, and it would look like this: 32-048 441 1000-126 117 DDC
This number may show up immediately if you have it entered at the post office; otherwise, you'd have to wait for the postman to scan it on delivery.
1st Class / RM 24 has the same delivery timeframe but the difference in cost are only a few pennies which you can get back at the end of the year anyway.
We stopped using 1st class as it allows dishonest buyers an edge over us.
Since we switched to RM 24/48, our INR cases have gone from around 10 - 15 per day to about 1-4 a month.
On a final note, always best to buy your labels from RM. With eBay / PayPal, you're unlikely to get free delivery confirmation.
