UK Lockdown - What Does This Mean For Us?

Boris has finally locked the country down and stated the rules for leaving the house and what type of shops are allowed to remain open.

I see post offices are allowed to stay open.

Does anyone know if that means that us eBay sellers are allowed to keep selling or should we stop?

Another potential problem is the slow royal mail delivery times. We would actually get some idiot buyers complaining and not looking at the bigger picture.

I have no sympathy at all for any seller who whines if they get set up by an opportunist buyer.

You have no sympathy for anybody...dropshippers, opportunist buyers, how about coronavirus victims?

Perhaps that's a decision to take for yourself.

I asked if royal mail was working as usual and if the lockdown means no postage.

I think the right thing to do is shut them down because imagine an eBay seller posting out this virus in the post.

It is gonna be tough with virtually no income but its the right thing to do.

So that is what I will do.

What about taking order and having it say we are on holiday for 3 weeks and deliveries will be made after that?

Is anyone going to do that?

I just saw you can only leave the home for essential work. So unless we are selling essentials I think we best stop.

I might just right as many sales out this week and Saturday just close down.

Does anyone know if UPS and Myhermes are planning to close.

Lockdown will only slow it down, you cannot stop the inevitable, simply to late now, self isolation is common sense, supermarket shopping has just made it worse, nation is in panic mode and when you panic you do not think properly,
no conclusive evidence where virus's evolve from or how they disappear, it simply vanishes with a seasonal change, so based on that theory your best hope is to stay inside because that is the best defense what we have unless you want to test out some untested vaccine

Latest update today from the post office says business as usual or as usual as it can be in the circumstances.
The government say you should not go out unless for food or medical supplies or to and from work so bit of a grey area as posting parcels is part of our work.

You're allowed to go to “work”

Surely this is counted as “work” unless your doing it as a hobby

I’m going to continue as usual, I’ll update you if I get fined or in trouble for going out

And there’s already enough negativity and stress don’t spew your bullsh*t on here - Op made a good thread

Re: UK Lockdown - What Does This Mean For Us?

To add, Amazon’s recruiting staff due to there surge in demand - they work together in a warehouse

Us guys, the ma and pa stores selling example 100 orders a day, working from home to package and just dropping at post office I would consider personally fine

Anyway, when the time comes and you’re questioned by authorities for going out we’ll see what they say

You are not classed as a keyworker, so you should not be posting your items.

Re: UK Lockdown - What Does This Mean For Us?

I dunno but the whole point of e commerce is to rid the need of gatherings in store, and not all of us leach off of the government so we need to make our bread and butter.

Under the current law you are allowed exercise such as walking / running

Maybe I’ll go for a early morning walk and dispatch my items on the way you donut

At the current moment there is a lockdown but it’s not that imposed down yet, if it does get more restricted then it’s understandable that we wouldn’t be able to go post office but at the moment it’s a watershed lockdown people still out and about going supermarkets which I imagine are a lot more riskier for getting the virus rather than post in mail

If there is a authority (cop) around every street corner enforcing this strictly then it’s probably not a good idea but at the moment it’s not come to that.

And as for your sympathy, Op did not ask for it so stick it where the sun don’t shine mate

Your sympathy ain’t gonna do anyone any good anyway so keep it, my comments are related to Op questions - yours is just non sense about sympathy and Privilege (don’t know where you got that from as well)

Is this supposed to be a joke?

Since the government is obviously not going to compensate any sellers who stop selling, I'd say it's allowed.

Re: UK Lockdown - What Does This Mean For Us?

Quoting a article I just read from the express

“ The Government also says online retail can remain in operation and encourages delivery services to run as normal. “

To add the situation is “rapidly evolving” so changes may ensue within the hour or next day

I’m quite surprised that as a “senior member” tinsoldier your clueless like scooby doo

Surely, e commerce is a means of escape for the masses in Lockdown situations like these - I did not say anywhere continue as normal but take extra pre cautions such as social distancing - in my 2 mile radius I have like 5 post offices some small scale others large scale

A bit of common sense and forward thinking goes a long way if it did exist, some of the posts on here amaze me honestly

And a side note - this article / info is accurate as of 24/03 @ 16.39pm - I cannot guarantee it’ll be the same anytime after this as this is a unprecedented and “rapidly evolving” situation
