Does ebay control your VAT treshhold?
 

Hi,

I have a business account since 1st of April 2020.

I now need to ensure that I dont cross my treshhold for VAT as I sell second hand items.
I wonder does Ebay block you too if they realise you are over the VAT treshhold and ask you to supply a VAT number?

If yes, do they go by 12 month periode so 1st of April to 31st of March 2021 in my case?

most of my accounts get VAT block after 0.5-3k GBP even if the treshhold is 100k. even if the account is not buissnes

In the UK? Sounds like something is wrong about your set up as that should not be happening

The limit is also 85k not 100k

I do not know, I do not use UK accounts to sell in UK.
2 days ago i got a VAT restriction on an account it was at 3400 GBP.

But i know how to remove them very easy so that's not a big deal for me.

Only annoying thing is that they remove your listing and my "30 sold" items listings are gone and i need to start from 0

For international sellers you need vat no to sell the 85k limit is only for UK residents or companies

You need to add a VAT number. They will block you with several written warnings or call you to ask whether you are getting a VAT number off HMRC.

Best to leave the account dormant and move onto another. Or just stop doing business (the correct thing to do ...) for 3 months to bring the turnover down.

you will get a block message request for your vat number, and then if you dont provide it you have to wait till the reset date. (if your not limited by then)

I have never seen a reset date. It just gets blocked until the vat number is provided

Thanks for all your replies. You are so great.

The ebay account has the name of my husband, but the company which details are provided is registered in my name.

If I add the VAT number will ebay check if the VAT number matches the persons name on the account or does it only has to match the company name or nothing at all?

Yes its needs to match with business/person name whatever u given on ebay

Currently its setup with the a real company name in the section where it asks for the business name and my husband name in the section where it asks for the owner.

Originally I was afraid to provide them my name because one of my accounts got suspended for good some time ago, all others are still not suspended in my real name.

Do you think it would bring me in trouble to change the business owners name at that stage? Or can I just add my name in addition to my husbands name?

yes you are right. I do not use UK accounts to sell in UK.
I will try to change the adress to UK next time
