PayPal / Bank Name Mismatch

Hi all,

I would appreciate it if somebody could kindly explain how a bank would know if there is a mismatch between the name on a bank account and a PayPal account that has withdrawn funds into it.

Having looked at bank statements from several different banks all I can see in the transaction detail for credit from PayPal is something Like PayPal WDL64736883627 (this is a fictitious reference by the way). Even on the initial deposit transaction that contains the verification code there doesnt seem to be any names listed in the transaction detail.

I guess banks have access to more detail than we do but I would have thought that for data protection reasons PayPal would not be allowed to disclose the name of the account holder in the transaction detail.

Of course if a PayPal account holder submitted the direct debit instruction at some point then the bank would be able to see the PayPal account name.

However If the Paypal account holder never submited the direct debit instruction how would the bank know the name on the PayPal account?

Cheers

I am looking at my bank statement now (BAC) .
When I have $1000 in my Paypal account,I transfer it to my BAC checking and the transaction has INDN:'my ebay seller ID'
My Ebay seller ID is nowhere close to my real name.
But AMZN deposits my sales proceeds ,the IDNM is the name I gave AMZN,not my seller ID.
(All my Paypal deposits come from online sales,99% Ebay)

Thanks for this but it is very different in the UK.

Does anybody in the UK have any thoughts?

It's not though because in the UK the funds don't go into our bank accounts directly from eBay - they may do once managed payments is implemented - but not yet.

We currently have to withdraw thee funds from PayPal and therefore our bank statements will not mention an eBay account name.

Paypal is Paypal,I would think it will be the same with US,UK and Canada.
now what your local bank would do would be different in diff countries

Best not to assume without trying out Canada or UK agent.

Hmm thats an interesting question, I have wondered about this also. Previously Paypal couldn't see the name on the bank account, but perhaps the bank can see the name on the Paypal? My sister worked for Santander for years so I'll maybe ask her when I'm next speaking to her and see if she knows anything about it, as she would know a fair bit about banking processes

When setting up a bank transfer the payee name is required even with PayPal’s automated system this would obviously be the same... when a bank transfer comes it from your place of work it also won’t show the name on the statement but internally the payee name with 100% be there.
