What happens when ID is rejected?
 

After the 2500 limit, when PayPal asks for documents, usually I've submitted them and after a week or so, the limitation quietly disappears.

What happens when they don't accept the documents? Do you get banned immediately?

You will get a notification usually that your documents are rejected for whatever reason - sometimes, if unlucky, you will just get a message saying that your pp account is permanently limited, funds in 180 days available, etc

So if you send them a terribly photoshopped ID, all that happens is that they message you saying try harder?

Not "all the happens" - they could just permanently limit your account too, sadly :(

What is this BS? If they don't like your documents you will invariably get perm limited as they know for certain that you're not who you say you are.

You can reupload new documents if your first ones are rejected. Happens quite often nowadays. If passport gets rejected just upload ID etc.

So if you hear nothing at all, and your account looks like it's working, that means everything is good?

That's what I stated - they can permanently limit your account

They tend not send any emails if the documents pass. You'll get a generic "appeal refused" email if they get rejected.

If your account has no notifications on it then it's safe to assume they were accepted.

It's really not. You stated that permanent limitations would only happen "sometimes", even though there obviously are no second chances if they reject your dodgy ID.

Are they even asking for ID at the 2500 limit these days? I have heard a few examples of where they have not done this recently.

Common Causes Of Rejection
1
The Name should be expanded even if the ID proof contains the name in abbreviated form.

Any mismatch in Name, including spelling mistake, may lead to rejection of application. Minor spelling deviations in the father’s name may be accepted, if such deviations do not materially impact the name.

Prefixes like Mr. / Ms. used in the applicant’s name

Residence proofs like: Bank Statements, Electricity Bill, Telephone Bill, Utility bills etc. submitted are older than 2 months of submitting the application for verification OR such documents are in the name of some other person, for example father or spouse.

If the seal/ stamp does not contain membership/ practicing certificate number, same may be recorded by hand.
