PP asking for ID. What happens to my money?

Hello everyone.
I’m new here so please be kind.
I had ebay for a few years & sold stickers.
Someone said they were counterfeit so I got blocked (they weren’t).
I really struggled without that extra income so last year I set up a new eBay in made up name & address & was doing really & sold some high value items over the weekend. PayPal now restricted my account asking for ID as I’m over the €2500 limit.
I clearly don’t have any and have £500 in PayPal that’s now stuck there!!
Shall I ring them & admit what I’ve done?
If I do, Will I ever get my money?
Or should I refund every buyer & not post the stuff?
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum - all the best as you master stealth :thumb:

Ringing them up and admitting what you've done is not likely to lead to any good results.

Were the high value items f*ke?

If you post the stuff then you will have to wait 180 days to get your funds...there are cases of PP denying the release of funds if violation of ToS (terms) are seen.

Maybe best to refund and let this account be

No. Never sold anything not 100%.
This stuff over the past few days was a loft clear out and had quite a few old camera equipment and vintage toys so they got good money but then PayPal want proof of I’d.

Just ID? Nothing else?

They want photo id (driving licence/passport/ official photocard) and a payslip or bank statement. Payslip is easy to tweek as they send they via email but photo ID is the problem.

If that's what they are asking for then give it to them. Seems quite straightforward. You will either have to get creative yourself or get another to do it for you.

Have you had a look at the marketplace on here for help?

Will have to do something.
My heads gone as the stuff was my wife’s late fathers cameras and she’s not happy at all. I’ve posted a few out already before the lock and the wife is so upset thinking we’ve just given the stuff away.

Make sure you have added the tracking numbers to paypal on the items you have sent. If you are planning on sending the rest make sure you add those numbers.

There are people that can help in the marketplace. You need to reach out to them. Go with whoever you feel you trust most. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that these docs will pass. It is up to you to weigh things up, is the cost involved in getting the docs worth it for the sum held? And if they do pass, you can continue to sell, so it can be a worthy business expense. If not, you may have to wait it out until 180 days after their decision and hope they release the funds.

Re: PP asking for ID. What happens to my money?

Thank you.
Always put the tracking numbers on just in case.

I’m in 2 minds.
I’d hate to cancel people’s orders and refund as I’m not like that. But if I do send then never get the money even after 180 days I’ll miss out.

Hopefully I can get some form of photo id somehow and soon as I’m soooooo in the dog house.

It’s worth a try.

It's an awful dilemma. Coupled with the grief from 'er indoors. She will come to accept it was not your fault, you didn't set out for this to happen.

There are some good sellers on here that have been around for a very long time. They know their stuff. Be honest with them and accept their advice.

Don't forget MP will be with you eventually so if you do get a good ID, keep it for that. The same with a bank statement. This may need to be updated in the future.

Keep us informed on how it goes and good luck with getting passed and getting your money.

Re: PP asking for ID. What happens to my money?

Just thinking out aloud here...
Can I change my details on PayPal to my REAL name & address and upload REAL docs?

1) Is that even possible?
2) Would they notice?
3) I have previously been banned on my original details - do they check?

no no, the moment you change info on the account, they'll lock you up, It'll be very suspicious.

I also recommend you start with the stealth guide to get your foundation strong in terms of stealth. Based on your questions I can tell you'll need it.

Think I’ve got the basics of a stealth account from intense reading on here & the forum has been a big help but it’s just this ID that’s got me stuck.

I said what I said from everything you asked me. But it's really up to you. Just pointing it out to help.

Not the best approach but it worked out for me 2 times. if possible try stealth docs first

I’ll try that first.
Did they close your account then make you wait 180 days for the money or give it you straight away?

SaiJin is right on about the flags being tripped if your try this.

1. Possible but not a great idea
2. Very likely to get account flagged
3. See no. 2 :( very easy linking possible...

Re: PP asking for ID. What happens to my money?

Maybe speak with the buyers as you can still refund while limited, and get them to send another form of payment if you send them a refund. Not ideal but it's either that or waiting 180 days for payment to be released

Re: PP asking for ID. What happens to my money?

Thanks everyone.
I decided to go online and try to work through this. The thought of letting the Mrs’ dads stuff go for free was giving me (and her) sleepless nights. Someone kindly managed to fix my driving licence. Seems my original one had the wrong details on it but a man in Bangladesh sorted it for me.

eBay & PayPal have so much of a hold and sometimes there’s no genuine way of sorting a problem out. It’s not like I was selling dodgy stuff in the first place but they just wouldn’t listen so I had to go stealth. Im just a genuine guy trying to make ends meet for my family and don’t usually even sell that much stuff.

So if there’s anyone in a similar situation to me I’d say keep trying. There’s always a way.

Thanks everyone very much for your help.
