Receiving large funds on new PayPal account

Hello guys!

Just a quick question....I have setup a new stealth account [ebay and paypal], ebay account is about 1 month old and the verified PP is also 1 month old.

I am about to list my home media system for auction and will fetch around £4,000. Im worried about how I will withdraw this into my bank account.

any suggestions/tips?

That is a lot of money. Are you shipping your Media System? Why don't you just offer local pickup and have the buyer pay a small deposit via paypal and pay the rest upon pickup.

Just specify in the listing that it's for Local pickup Only. That way you don't have to use paypal for the whole amount.

I would never ever ship and use paypal for something that expensive. Expensive items attract scammers..

plus a month old pp is asking to be limited

^^ agree local pickup and cash only

cheers guys...wot about writing "bank transfer preffered" or something to that extent in the listing?? because i wudnt be limiting myself to bidders in my locality

oompa, how r u? long time no hear...all good???

wot's dis naffin txt talk?

A bank transfer is only fine if the buyer's account is sound. Scammers get to bank accounts as well.

IF your item is hot enough to sell, then a genuine buyer will go along with what deal YOU offer them. :peace:

was just away to enquire about the same thing

am planning to sell new items which are expensive $500+

obviously ebay you have to offer paypal as payment option but i dont want to risk getting stung

should i offer to let ebay winner pay deposit with paypal or insist full payment is made by bank transfer?

i normally only deal with small payments £30 approx so will probably approach this differently

i have sold high end items through ebay and paypal for quite a few years, and have only had 3 instances of a buyer screwing me or attracting a scammer. so not sure what you guys are talking about, from all that i read there seems to be a lot of constant paranoia with some users about scammers. you cant make real money, unless your moving around real money, meaning unless your selling high end items and getting them cheap, then your just setting yourself up to do alot of work selling alot of mid range items only to make a medium to low profit on each. the real money is in the high end items, getting them in bulk and getting good deals, then re selling. i make a 100-1k profit on most my items. sometimes more. if im going to make anything less then that, to me personally its not worth the time and energy. i also sell on accounts about a couple months old, creating a ton, letting them age and rotating and working on them all. if you use this system for high end items you can limit your work and time involved and maximize your profits at the same time.

BON 01-22-2010 10:13 AM

as well with paypal?

aking 01-22-2010 10:15 AM

selling something that expensive on ebay? You're asking for trouble. Your account is brand new so it will def raise red flags when paypal sees it.

Little rule I follow: I never sell anything on ebay that I would not mind losing.

I don't think you want to risking losing something thats worth 4 grand.

cortex 01-23-2010 04:34 PM

Obviously dont want to lose 4k, hell no.
What about using Escrow? I dont trust it coz i could get ripped off here. If i ship my kit out to someone, they might not send it back to me. Or they might send me a load of rubbish in a box and get their money back.

Oompa..yeh I took a lil break from dissections lol ... :)

GreenBean 01-23-2010 05:23 PM

:faint: cortex, have you had any discussions with an escrow service? (sounds a bit how's your father;)) Don't be saying here & in your other thread I don't trust them because of xyz! Make the enquiries. You may be surprised. For people that use them, it is excellent.

cortex 01-24-2010 09:35 AM

I dont trust it coz i *COULD* get ripped off here.

GreenBean 01-24-2010 09:49 AM

Use paypal then;) They never rip anyone off:boink:

har har har

Funny, I like to think I'm ripping them off. :pop2:
