34K$ stuck on paypal - what to do?

I have 34K$ stuck on paypal, it's not in my name. Can I withdraw to debit card without the name being the same or do I absolutely have to let the person who's name it's in know and they get a percentage?
Thanks:help:

Re: 34K$ stuck on paypal - what to do?

If the Paypal is made with somebody else's real information then using the account to run your money through is ID theft.

But you should be able to just add a bank account and withdraw as usual. There are thousands of threads here discussing mismatching withdrawals from Paypal to bank accounts.

Re: 34K$ stuck on paypal - what to do?

If you manage to get your funds out, never let your balance build up that high again. Paypal is not a bank and should not be treated as such. They're known to limit accounts, tell you the funds will be released in 180 days, then send all of your money to themselves right before the 180 days are up using AUP violations as the reason. You're really asking for trouble having that much money in a Paypal account. :nono:

it's a family member and they helped me set it up, are you sure the debit card name doesn't have to match? I've spent a few hours looking through resources and it seems bank accounts must always match and debit cards are 50/50.
Sorry if I'm asking a lot, I don't want to make the wrong move and pay the price for it.

Re: 34K$ stuck on paypal - what to do?

I'm American but UK Paypals have been sold here for years. The people buying them are cashing out to UK banks which don't match the names on the Paypal, obviously. You're unable to set up your "direct debit instruction" thing to let Paypal pull funds from your bank account, but most UK banks will tolerate mismatched deposits coming from Paypal.

Yeah if you're already limited and you haven't been cashing out as you go along.. kiss that money goodbye. Never store money in Paypals. :/

Re: 34K$ stuck on paypal - what to do?

paypal would not release 34K voluntarily , they make a lot of money this way so such large amounts can only be released either after heavy verification (if successful) or if they are taken to court

Phazor is correct. You may withdraw to a bank with a mismatched name. However, as a semi-large amount is involved, I wouldn't do it unless you have a good history of prior withdrawals between your PayPal account and the bank account. If you don't, it just might get sent back to Paypal.
The alternative is to involve your relative.
Ordinarily, it would be best if you made sure the following docs are at the ready:
Passport / Drivers license, Bank statement for the attached bank, Invoices / Receipts for your transactions related to funds in the PayPal account.

Unless 'e-commerce' involved something against PayPal's AUP, you should get your money back even if it's eventually withdrawn to Paypal under AUP terms when 180 days run out.
Nothing to worry about, really.

Brief AUP here:

OP has not yet had his balance drained for AUP violations. He just realized it's a possibility. :coffee:

Online selling is precisely the reason PayPal was born.
What were you selling?

Hi
sorry to hear your loss.
Can you tell us more about the country of the account? Do you still have access to the phone linked?
