Paypal Balance, Making Payments Now Says I Have To Update CC (Expired Some Time Ago)
 

Hello all,

I have Paypal balance. Till recently (up to a few days ago) the account was working fine though now when I try to make a payment it says I have to update its credit card (which expired some years ago!).

It's a friend's account (yep, I know) though they moved house over a year ago. I'll still be able to get in touch with the account holder, though I was using this for modest ebay sales, accumulated over time.

From reading around, it doesn't seem I can add a card without it being the verified billing address.

Is there a way round it (it is Paypal balance, after all, not a credit card or bank account transfer, or is this just an ID check after so many years?).

I've read prepaid credit cards are tricky in the UK too.

Aw, thanks for the nice welcome. I have lurked on here on and off for years but must admit the stealth thing seems a bit daunting and I'm not sure if we have less options in the UK.

I'm not quite stealthing at the moment but it would definitely be preferable to relying on a friend's trust/generosity (even though it is "my", albeit meagre, profit, if you like).

I've seen a few on the UK section saying that most prepaid cards don't work here - as recently as 4 days ago - couldn't find out much more. Obviously I don't want to risk limiting the account and getting myself in deeper doo-doo.

I've been in touch with my friend who I'll phone soon (caught him on night shift!), think I'll just take the balance out when it's updated and rethink my options!

Talked to my friend - he tried updating billing address and CC but was coming up with all sorts of errors?

Maybe additional ID required? He has been using another Paypal account at his new-ish address (over 2 years) fine so it seems strange.

Use a revolt virtual card last I checked they do not need to pass the AVs so it can add without a problem

Your friend has 2 accounts?
is he trying to use the same cc ?

Revolut Visas are AVS cards. I'm not sure about the Mastercards though.

Think it's VISA, Santander.One is business or Premier as it was called, one is a regular Paypal afaik.

That's likely what the problem is - he has an ordinary Paypal with one bank account and the one I use (Premier) won't allow him to add the same one.

I thought it was a bug on the website but read around and this seems to be why: You can't use the same bank account for two different Paypal accounts, which is maddening.

If I can't pay with Paypal Balance (as the bank card has expired, it comes up as an alert if I try to pay and won't proceed), I won't be able to transfer the Paypal Balance to another Paypal account?

My only option then (if he doesn't have another bank account) is for him to close the account and put the funds in his bank account? Or is there another way?
