Seller protection when you hand deliver an item
 

Im selling a large , heavy item. A buyer asked me if I could deliver to him. I said yes, cash on delivery, but I dont want to get in trouble with ebay for selling an item outside of ebay, but I dont want the buyer to pay through ebay either, as after I deliver, the buyer could go to ebay and say I never delivered to them (scam buyer) I want to protect myself as a seller and protect my account at the same time.

What are my options?

Could the buyer just hit (BUY IT NOW), and not pay through ebay, but when I get the cash, I can say, payment received (??)

Nothing wrong with cash on delivery, shouldn't be an issue with ebay, they just want their fees at the end of the day.
Clearly if they paid you through ebay you'd need to refund and cancel the order, no way would I hand deliver if they did.

How would ebay get their fees if the sale is off the record?

Mark as 'paid and dispatched' in your account, they'll collect their fees from your balance from other sales or from your bank/card if you've no monies available. No need to prove delivery.

That said, it wouldn't hurt to get some photos of the delivery process.

Right, I have done this in the past under different circumstances, also I thought that ebay had changed their site layout so much over the last 6 months that maybe this was not possible anymore. So I guess I just tell my buyer to hit (buy it now) but dont pay yet, and I would mark as paid after the cash deal was completed. Sounds about right? Thanks for your input

Yep, payment on collection is a valid option offered by ebay on listings in your settings, just ensure it's available and they can 'buy' the product without paying.

Thanks again. It looked like I had my ebay payment settings as pay on checkout and not cash on collection. This is why I hate ebay changing their site layout every week

Ebay has 30 days money back guarantee so in 30 days,he can still file dispute item not as described or item not received.dont both taking pictures,tracking MUST be from a commercial carrier and online viewable

Someone suggested you take pictures,thats why I said dont bother.
In the past,sellers would take pictures of himself knocking on the door,shaking hands with buyer,and come home and find an INR in his email box.

I suggested taking pictures, not for any ebay related issue but just as a simple record of the transaction. Whilst highly unlikely, buyers do have other scammy recourses other than an ebay refund - which they wouldn't get because, contrary to what you claim, you cannot file an INR unless you paid through ebay. Your tale simple isn't true. :nono:

buyer can always file outside Ebay.
most sellers keep record of transaction with either a receipt,invoice,listing,copy of check,not picture of himself delivering item,

Most sellers will give a receipt or invoice, not much use to the seller if got messy outside of ebay. I don't think anyone who is willing to deliver takes cheques do they? I wouldn't.

It's now almost the norm since the kungflu madness, but nearly every courier who delivers to me nowadays take a photo. :)

I print out the order details and have the buyer sign it.
