i want to no if sellers can make millions on ebay per year or is it just ebay making billions and we are getting crumbs?

Just like any marketplace some will earn a lot and otherwise won't

Of course it's possible to make millions, there's companies out there doing it as we speak.

But most of those who are don't rely on just ebay, that would b stupid, they use many platforms.


I don't think you've managed to grasp the mark-up that some wares carry. You mentioned on another thread "that the only way to make money would be if you could buy at £100 and sell at £200". That not even remotely close to what many business sellers are aiming for. If I am selling something for £200 I would be buying it in for ~£70, those with buying power will get it for less. Those who can sell in huge volumes might even be happy to pay a little more.

(FYI my best mark up is an item I buy for £6.80/£7.00 depending on exchange rates and sell for £59.00)

This is the part you're overlooking, you're an individual scratching around for a few quid, companies like Music Magpie make good money by scratching around for a few pennies on each sale.


As long as the keep thinking that ebays fees are excessive then you'll never make any money from online sales.

Did Ebay really make 9 billions,or gross sales on Ebay is 9 billions and the fee collected by Ebay is a fraction of that 9 billions?
No company makes 9 billions after operating expenses and taxes,not even APPL.
As for Ebay sellers making millions,easy money is long gone,there were some sellers who sold millions(1 million plus) in early days of VHS,DVD,CD and eventually filed for bankruptcy.ditto for those who sell refurbished PC,laptop,scanners,cameras.
after paying Ebay fees,PAYPAL fees,returns ,these sellers are not really making that much .
The problem with cyber sales is like what Rupert Murdoch said in the early days,you cant stop your supplier selling along side with you,how can you compete with your supplier?
He bought at $1,sold to you at $2 ,so your cost is the price he would be selling,$2,can you sell yours at $3 when shoppers can buy from him at $2 or $1.50 .
Sometimes it is not your supplier,but his kids at home or neighbor or relative.

Just bare in mind that $9b is gross sales not post tax profit. That number would be a lot lot smaller
