Microdeposits - what are they looking for?
 

I have a few st34lth accounts that have been ticking over minimal sales.

Eb sent micro deposits ages ago but I have not done anything yet

It was my plan to add new current account bank account and change my details over as I have done on previous accounts.

Is this something that I am able to do now? What if I just go ahead and enter the micro deposit amounts in that Eb have sent and asked for - what info can they see with these?

Ebay can not see anything if you confirm the micro deposits, if they could see account details like name and address of the account holder why do the deposits. They use this to verify that the bank details are correct to deposit into.

I would report the deposits as required and leave it a couple of weeks and then change the bank details for the new one.

I'll only use a current account to get access to several savings accounts and feed those to eBay instead of the current. If an ebay account dies, you can close and spawn a new savings account without imprinting on your credit file.

Going off at a bit of a tangent but in time Banks will offer a CoP (Confirmation of Payee) service to ebay I'll wager. The mechanics are in place, some banks are already using for some kinds of transaction it but it is not yet mandatory. As our privacy is eroded you can almost be sure it will be implemented at some point.

On the second point, if they change their bank account will that not trigger more micro-deposits?
That said and happy to be corrected, but I don't think it is their intention to change the bank account, more the ebay account details, hence the question about micro deposit info as they are recovered by ebay and why the CoP service, if implemented in the future, could be a problem.

I hope that privacy laws are upheld as anybody with money can access any or all of your private information from all different sources.

In the UK you can opt out of detail discloser when registering your name and address with the electoral register, only credit reference agencies can see that, however private investigators can get access to it as well, that is how eBay can do a soft credit check to include verification of name to the address.

micro deposits are only valid for 30 days after which they will be displayed as invalid if you try to add them

you can replace the bank account without problems as long as you have a valid mobile on file

And if the name doesn't correspond to the address does it trigger a suspension / ID request straight away or only when you hit a certain amount of sales?

It will trigger a temporary suspension with a ID request.

That's me done then. If I use my real name and address it will likely also trigger an alert as I was previously suspended when I tried a creative ID. I am between a rock and a hard place. I thought I read on these forums that the ID request and temporary suspension would only come after a certain amount of sales.
