But where are you?and where will the shipment come from?
If it is outside UK,there will be VAT.
I just sold some items to someone in Ireland on Etsy, receiving address is UK,and I have to state on the package that VAT has been collected by Etsy and will be forwarded to authority
Who said Ebay need you Vat number,?
Go to Ebay seller forum and ask other sellers.
I sell on Etsy to customers in EU and UK,Etsy takes care of charging VAT from my buyer and remitting to his govt,I use Etsy global shipping and write the VAT code (given by Etsy) and the $$ on the shipping label,Etsy global shipping knows what to do.
Thanks,I just sold some items to a guy in UK(Ireland) on Etsy,I am an US seller ,Etsy takes the VAT $$ from my buyer and I mark my package with the proper Tarriff number and that VAT $$ XXX has been paid .
He should not have to pay tarriff when he receives the item.
Etsy took his money,I assume Etsy will remit to UK,but it may not believe the amount is enough.Thats his problem.
here is the message from Etsy when I reviewd the order
You must share Etsy's IOSS number, IM3720000224, with your courier for this order (use it only for this purpose). This helps ensure that your buyer won't be charged VAT twice. Make sure to write the value of this order in euros, €xx.yy, on your package, too.
Using shipping labels purchased from Etsy? We’ll do this all for you.

Now a year ago,an UK buyer bought an item from me,Etsy has not started collecting Vat then, when it arrived at his post office,he is expected to pay Uk customs and he refused to go to the post office,so it finally come back to me like 6 months later.
A few months ago,an Austrian buyer bought an item with goldfill case from me,Etsy did not charge him VAT $$,when it arrived in Austria, customs want him to pay tarriff of $200?? and he said he does not have the money and wants me to pick up half?
I refused and told him to appeal ,it is not solid gold,it is goldfill and he should not have to pay that much.
Back and forth,it went nowhere,I guess it will find its way back to me.
So it looks like Etsy collecting VAT must be quite recent,
years ago when I was selling to UK,some buyers will ask me to write charity on the customs form,I guess this is how they can avoid paying customs duty?
