PayPal instant refund when disputing WTF???
 

Hi all

Ordered a low value item worth £13.30 on Facebook to be posted.

Paid with paypal. Seller seemed very genuine but like an idiot he ghosted me after payment.

So I opened the inevitable PayPal claim but here's the weird bit they refunded me instantly. No chance for the seller to provide tracking number or give his version of events.

Imagine if it had been a £5000 item and paypal just instantly refunded me like that.

This seems odd I can't understand why PayPal would do this unless he was already suspended. Or perhaps if he disputes the claim paypal try to get the money back from me somehow?

Can anyone explain this?

Perhaps as a low dollar item ai decided automatically to issue a refund - all platforms are now instituting ai behind the scenes while replacing most humans to some degree with the hopes of it eventually running them completely. Whether this will work or not is another question.

Most likely the seller's account is suspended. It happens to scammers =)

Surely even if account was limited / suspended they would give seller a chance to provide tracking details otherwise any suspended seller is wide open to be scammed.

He really didn't look like a scammer such a low value item and it was hard to haggle the price down. Haggling with scammers is easy.

And he offered paypal outright scammers tend to want bank transfer or other unrecoverable payment methods only taking paypal as a last resort.

Feels like there was a policy at play to just refund a lower amount, though if the seller account is limited the refund would be quick as well.

Seller may not have responded to the requests of PP
