Has anyone tried entering in a NINO from a NINO generator? One of my Stealth accounts has had a request for it...I am contemplating using a generator to see what happens. Its not a major account, but would still be a loss if I lose it as its a few years old.

So accounts that are a few years old are getting NiNo requests now ? I thought it was only accounts made this year ? And all legacy accounts from next year.

Those being asked for one, what category are you selling in ?

Hi, I can only tell you what I've told you. I was surprised when the red box of death appeared too. Its been there two weeks, still selling, adding quantities and getting payouts...for how long I dont know.

Standard category., nothing risky or VERO filled etc

The legislation states marketplaces have an addition year for accounts created before this year. Marketplaces can collect the date any time from now until then. Nowhere does it state the date will be collected from next year and not this year.

Ok so they are still paying out ? That's good news. Please keep us posted in regards to when they actually restrict payouts / selling.

For now, I hazard a guess it will stop at some point, I'll get a redder box stating that payouts will be stopped if I dont upload yada yada.

I agree with James on this thread, there is no way eBay will get access to check the NINO number, for now anyway, but I think something will be in the making so that they can get a verification at least of the number matching the name on the accout, but that will be a while a way.

Still we will find out when someone enters a generated NINO number.

This is just my opinion but this whole tax thing has been put on ebay by the HMRC - they will do the minimum of what's required as this will disrupt their business and the number of sellers on the platform.
Initially I think Ebay will pass on the NINO information and await further feedback from HMRC, if the numbers are incorrect or false then the account may then be closed depending on the agreement between the two.
Given how slow HMRC are their could easily be a gap extending months into years.
ebay wont be verifying anything on behalf of HMRC

I believe someone on this platform already has submitted an incorrect number accoridng to another thread and this was accepted

I have submitted several different numbers without any issues so far, obviously you need to make sure they the right format and a valid prefix, there is no checksum.

Obviously there is the risk that HMRC may "come a calling", even if you are using stealth details the bank account linked would find its way back to the correct person.

Given vast majority of this will be automated letters on a large scale etc I'd doubt it, but the risk still lies.
I think it does say in the T&C's that bank information would be supplied to HMRC
