End of ebay with NI required? + Do other markets need? + Has it been needed in USA?

OMG, this is the nail in the coffin.
ebay is done. All that will be a left will be people selling 2nd hand items or dodgy returns + a few of the big sellers.
A big chunk of sellers will disappear almost over night.
Or have I got it wrong?
Other market places like Etsy: have they started asking for it?
For the USA... has it always been a requirement to give the equivalent of NI?
In which case, if so, maybe it's not all doom and gloom? |

In the US they have had a similar thing with SSN numbers for years. |

| It probably is, but we don't know yet, how quickly it will become the 'killer' factor, if it does, no one knows.
I am pretty sure it will be the end of Stealth accounts, maybe not yet, could take a year, maybe more, maybe less.
I don't know how the US eBay validates the SSN, but if they do, then the UK will follow. |

They never asked for a SSN number or any identification previously?
I'm not from UK, from the US, but is this particularly different from providing a SSN? |

| Not on eBay, until Managed Payments, then they use electoral roll/credit searcg or ask you to submit ID.
This is for government purposes as in part, the government wants to put millions into poverty, and taxing anyone making something on the side is easier than taxing billionaires, so the NI number helps them identify who you are, and what you are making on eBay or others. |

Yeah the USA has been trying to roll out something similar.
I believe it is/was $600 in online sales and up and they want it on your tax form. |

| it is all old news , SSN verification has been in place in the US for many years. companies may upload hundreds of thousands of SSN to get a reply within a few days |
