Multiple eBay accounts on my own name / details, can I use the same NI number for all
 

Hi. With eBay’s new hmrc rule is it ok to use the same NI number for multiple acoounts? I have 3 eBay accounts on the same name, 2 of which share the same bank account. Currently I have inputted my slightly wrong NI number onto one account. Can I do the same for when I’m prompted to do this on the other 2 accounts? And can I use the same mis-typed NI number or should it have to be completely different? Many thanks and any advice appreciated.

that would be a linking factor for them, but you should be okay as long as you maintain good selling performance in all of the accounts

Ebay pass this info (whatever you submit) to HMRC alongside your name and address etc therefore it would be a letter from them about undeclared tax

you read the topics here and you will quickly realize that the taxman will be chasing small sellers only and especially those with stealth accounts on ebay

I would not be surprised if they create a taskforce dealing with ebay only

I've done it, and it's fine. Why would it be a problem? You can have multiple ebay account in your own details.

I already used a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ NI number on one of the accounts as per instructions on this site. Now I’m not sure if I should do that for the other accounts?

2, so you do not link the accounts, one example, if you have had questionable VERO takedowns and are selling the same items on other accounts, you do not want to link them as then they will all fall. An NINO is more definite linking than a name.

Simple stuff, as you've never Stealthed, its worth learning a bit more.

2 - How is it? If you have the same name, DOB and address? Why would someone using there own details not use their own NI number? I've had Vero on multiple accounts in the same details no issue. Each one is counted differently on each account

2. To prevent easy linking as explained. NINO is new, it will take a while for them to use it to create linking, but they most certainly will when looking at accounts suffering multiple violations. VERO links on multiple accounts is often a take down of any related accounts if the same item is posted on each of them. All basic stuff. Each one is definitely not counted as differently on each account once they are linked. Sometimes we get lucky, sometimes we don;t, some of us don't want to rely on luck when we know how to manage it better.

3. You havent. If you had, you would know stuff, you know literally bare basics you learned from this site and then repeat stuff thats in your head and not a reality.

You are a complete cock! You don't know what you are talking about, how do you know how they will use the NI details for linking? Just like how you know how HMRC will deal with the data they will now have?! You know nothing, so someone with accounts with the same name, address and dob won't be linked, but they will if they have the same NI number?! What a sack of ****! I have had that happen with Vero on different linked accounts so I know it doesn't cause an issue. Sorry I forgot you have been here for years under a different name..... If people on here want to believe your rubbish more fool them! The idiot who started this thread will likely lose their accounts for following this terrible advice. You have legit accounts, but don't use your real NI number, use a made up one! No wonder all the knowledgeable users don't post here know with muppets like you pretending to be the God Of Stealth!

You have to wonder about those using an NI generator, would the number potentially already in use by someone who's own number it is? Obviously its a huge pool of numbers, so the odds are low...

Have you tried running the same number twice for different names?

We havent had any failures of generated numbers yet. I guess we will see them crumble all at the same time when/if they get checked...you could be right about the Christmas period.

I have not tried , I also did not generate anything

but I can assure you that people using the same number for more than one person will get problems later because ebay can not send that information to HMRC , they are not obliged to verify it but they have to send information which is correct to their best knowledge

I'm expecting a HMRC response service myself, they do it for other companies, mostly employers taking on large employees, the likes of Amazon etc, it comes back as verification 'pass/fail', how long this takes to implement and then for eBay to follow up with is anyone's guess. We also don't know if they allow a 'second chance' to input a number.

Would are probably looking a year down the line though at this stage.

thousands upon thousands of auto created letters will be sent out to scare people into submitting tax returns. they wont need to work out the allowances or exceptions here - N.I number and that you have sold over £1700 - auto triggers the letter

I have to agree with Brucey, I think those letters are going to be fired out immediately, Royal Mail are going to get a brucey bonus next year!

But, they won't follow up or investigate hardly any of them, as you say, they will go after the VAT stuff first, because at sub vat level, the revenue could be so low once everything has been accounted for - important duties an vat, postage, returns, losses, selling fees, insurance, deductions for storage/heating etc, the tax owed could be so low on so many accounts.

I think people running multiple accounts and transferring them all to a singe person details might have to watch the VAt limit if using the same NINO number..as say four accounts only need to take 23k a year and you're into VAT..

It's more about if they target you, then you're fooked, but tbf, they could have done that just as easily as before.

Hi. I used a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ Nino for one account but then about a week later I was asked to upgrade to business. When upgraded to business they recently again asked for NI number. Today I recieved the following message

“Urgent: update your account to avoid restrictions.

Hi ******,
We're writing to remind you that you still need to update your account with your National Insurance number.
The UK digital sales reporting law requires sellers with 30 or more sales, or who ​​have sales exceeding £1740 in a calendar year, to provide this information.
To avoid disruption to your payouts, please update your details by 01 Jun, 2025.”

So I’m currently running four accounts and haven’t uploaded my ni number to any. I have upgraded 2 to business and two are still to be upgraded, however will probably just de-list most stuff on those accounts.

All my accounts are linked to me so I’m still trying to find out if I should use genuine or ⊗⊗⊗⊗ ni number.

Do you mean more than one person's name or more than one account with the same name? Ebay never used to have rules against having multiple accounts. I presume you could still have two or three accounts with the same details / NIN.

It's not okay to use a wrong NI number, even if it's the same wrong one, for multiple eBay accounts. You should use your correct NI number for each account. Using the wrong NI number could cause problems with HMRC and your taxes.
