| jimsters | 07-29-2010 07:02 AM | New ebay accounts requiring link to verified paypal or bank? hi
it seems like new seller ebay accounts not only ask for card and phone verification, but they now want you to link either a bank account or a verified paypal account (with bank account attached) before it will let you become a seller.
it used to let you become a seller with just a card and phone verification this now seems like a new step.
has anybody else got this, and can you link a paypal wich is just card verified (not bank account verified)?
thanks |
oompaloompa | 07-31-2010 06:27 AM | yes, need bank, those are rules now |
forummember | 08-01-2010 12:25 PM | You will have to attach a Bank to your PayPal account in order to proceed with the setup. |
pending | 08-19-2010 06:57 PM | i found this out the hard way - made my first sale and now it's all over - paypal has seized (stolen) funds and is keeping them unless i verify cards. i guess it's over, a shame because it's not cheap buying a new phone, getting a pre=paid card etc....:-( |
GreenBean | 08-19-2010 07:51 PM | @pending, if you had set the account up correctly, you may have avoided this.
To sell on ebay UK, your paypal account should be fully verified. That includes a bank account & a cc.
Is there any reason you did not do that? Do you know the way to set up accounts?:peace: |
aking | 08-19-2010 08:44 PM | Nothing has really changed (for me at least), they're just making you do things up front now. You had to link your ebay account to paypal anyway if you choose paypal as your method of paying ebay fees, which I always do. You have always had to add a VCC and bank account in paypal. This change is really nothing major. Just started selling on 2 accounts yesterday. :p |
jimsters | 08-20-2010 04:14 AM | hi
this is a change.
you used to be able to verify your ebay sellers account with a cc.
then choose to pay your fees with a cc and there was no need to link or verify your paypal account at all to be able to sell.
you could choose to link your paypal account if you wanted to pay your fees that way, however if you didnt want to pay your fees with paypal you could pay them with a cc and not have to link your paypal.
now you HAVE to link your paypal there is no choice. |
cortex | 08-20-2010 06:01 AM | "you used to be able to verify your ebay sellers account with a cc"
When was this ever the case? Have I been missing something??
I thought you HAD to verify with a physical bank account everytime you make a seller account?!?!? |
GreenBean | 08-20-2010 06:58 AM | If memory serves me correctly, ebay sellers account did not need a verified paypal to sell before March 2008. Certainly was in that first quarter of 2008 that things changed. Yeah, it was then. I was depressed for ages :tears: |
jayne.w1 | 08-20-2010 08:43 AM | Can you start selling by just using a visa gift card with paypal? Anyone know? |
A week I was able to sell with an unverified paypal and using gift card on eBay. That account got suspended because yes I sold cheap items too quickly - or perhaps the system kicked in for the verified paypal part. Just a random blip.
New account made - yes verified paypal needed this time. |
pending | 08-22-2010 10:54 AM | i used a pre-paid card to sell...yes, it was suspended - i could reopen it if i could verify the card so i think it depends what card. you need a pre-paid card that you can log into and check statements on - what you are looking for, of course, is the 4 digit code that paypal use when they debit 1 pounds from you. ibux.co.uk is, so far, not much good in this respect but i could keep you updated? |
I set up a seller account.
I already had a relatively new, Unverified PayPal Personal account with a single credit card on it.
Now I signed-up for a new eBay account.
I had to put in a valid (not mobile) phone number for eBay.
I linked the two accounts together.
I attempted listing an item but was asked to do phone verification. No other option was available for verifying ID.
OK seller account went live.
Listed five items at 99p whilst one hour passed.

Darn my credit card is stuck in my PAYPAL account. Boy do they know how to waste your time and spell "Canceled" wrong. |
pending | 08-23-2010 05:39 AM | never mind - you can pay your fees via the pre-paid card and then, maybe, buy an oyster card or some such with the remaining credit....? |
pending | 08-23-2010 05:44 AM | can i also say @GreenBean that yes, of course, i know that to verify you add a bank account but, at the moment, i really want no links, no traces. i really wanted to find out if it was possible to get a fully stealth account going - i don't care about the limits, i had plans for those as well.....but no links |
