messing with time and confusing the terminally hard of thinking.

Here goes.

i am in the uk, i am listing things to run for 7 days starting on the 29th oct, through to 31st, they will be ending the week after, now then, if i list something to start at 19:00 for instance, then during the week the clocks go back an hour, will that item finish at 18:00? thus cocking up my sales?

Should i be listing things i want to finish at 19:00 to start at 20:00? the week before in advance like?

it only happens twice a year so my memory banks dont save this information.

please advise.

I have until friday to find out, please answer, i have no friends and you good people are my only method of finding out. no matter how trivial and obvious the answer may be, i just can't figure it out.

How does item ending an hour later or early mess up sales? Its a serious question, I can't for the life of me understand why this is an issue.

In any case, the auction duration is set on length of time so my educated guess is 7 days [168 hours] is the same length regardless of actual time. Its a countdown, and not based on the clock. So if clock goes back an hour and you want item to end exactly at 6, you will need to start it an hour back as well

But please, I'm dieing to understand why this is an issue.

The timing is an important factor, i sell collectables and from my own observations the biggest audience occurs between 19:00 and 21:00 BST friday saturday, sunday, thats why timing is a factor between those hours the collectables market seems to pick up, even really rare items fetch a decent price at any time but fetch about 20% more during those hours.

I suppose i may be a bit O.C.D about it all :nerd:

Maybe, but if you are tracking a 20% spike in price run with with it.

So to summarise.

If i list something i want to finish at 19:00 next week, after the clocks go back, but am listing it before the clocks go back, i must list it to start at 20:00 to finish @ 19:00.

Sorted.

That would be my guess because its on a countdown timer. However, I'm just guessing. I do not think when the clocks roll back all auctions will roll back. Example: An auction has 63 minutes left, clock rolls back, they wont all of a sudden make that auction 3 minutes. So the principal would be the same for any auction with time left.

Make sense?

Oh god its so confusing.

;)

Her ya go:
add one hour to list time.

That's all you need. Start one hour ahead of when you want it to end

6 PM end = 7 PM list
9 PM end = 10 PM list

Thanks for helping a confuzzled fool wrap his head around what seems to me like string theory.

I can confirm this is correct because in the ebay announcements archive on oct 29.2009 there is last years message about it.
