Then tried to open a second account online through another bank where I have an account and have had it for a couple of year that was knocked back as they ran a credit check and seen the red mark from the other banks credit check.
So tried to open an account in partners name online for the first bank I mention and again knocked back due to credit check again seeing the stupid red mark from the first account I mentioned.
Just as you seem to be opening them at will I was wondering what was the secret, or was I doing something wrong?

'Credit check?' There's always a credit check done but it usually does not effect the outcome. These ones are called 'soft' checks and are just a note, rarely should be grounds to decline setting an account.

Try NatWest basic account. You can open on line or in branch, as it's a basic account they aren't too fussy about credit score - they do cheeck but just to confirm you are who you say they are. You don't get a debit card just a cash card.
They asked me why I only wanted a basic account - I just told them it's where I wanted my benefits paid into - stops them point blank in trying to upgrade to another of their accounts which require a further checks.
They will probably ask for proof of address etc.
The co-op sent an offer for the basic current account.
Still waiting to see what is causing the problems with this credit check though, they are sending me a letter, which is part of the sign up you have to do.
