Google mail asking for mobile confirmation

Anyone else come across this?

Just started opening up another google mail account and after filling in the form got took to a page that wanted me to give them a mobile number for confirmation.

I got this

Verify your account
You're almost done! We just need to verify your account before we can create it.

Account verification helps with:
  • Preventing spam: we try to verify that real people, not robots, are creating accounts.
  • Recovering account access: we will use your information to verify your identity if you ever lose access to your account.
  • Communication: we will use your information to notify you of important changes to your account (for example, password changes from a new location).
Unless you explicitly tell us to do so, your phone number will never be sold or shared with other companies, and we will not use it for any purpose other than during this verification step and for password recovery and account security issues. In other words, you don't have to worry about getting spam calls or text messages from us, ever.

For more information, please read our frequently asked questions.

Verification Options
Text Message
Google will send a text message containing a verification code to your mobile phone.

Anyone know if BT charge you for these messages, as I am sure they have a charge for them?

I think I read somewhere that you're allowed 5 google accounts per computer/ip so that may be your problem.

Dont quote me on this though.

they doing this a lot now. I've seen it and just opened 1 account on that ip.

All google accounts require this. Just get a phone that accepts text/calls and you'll be good to go.

It's their way of eliminating spam bots.

edit: IP address do NOT matter. They STILL want you to verify you're a human being.

Yes they had me do that on my last two gmail accounts

They also have a max amount of times that a cell number can be used in this way so spread it

Just buy gmail accounts....20 cents per PHONE VERIFIED.
