| craigle | 01-22-2011 11:36 AM | Visiting parents, but old ebay acc banned there, help! Hi guys
i wonder if u can help? problem is, is that i am visiting my folks next week and there internet is with Sky but i used to have an account at that address which is now banned. Same net service now as what it was when it happend about a year ago
as im away i will need to check my current ebay shop but will i be able to as this addy is banned, and will it flag up with ebay? is there anything i can do?
i have a pay as u go dongle somewhere around, so i was wondering if i top that up and connect that user profile to the dongle would that be a safer option?
i have my ebay on 1 user profile, and 1 other profile for my own net use. Would i have to use a dongle on both say?
be great if i could get around this though without the dongle
thanks in advance :) |
queent | 01-23-2011 05:41 AM | why dont you just go to a internet cafe |
craigle | 01-23-2011 05:51 AM | there is that option, but its a pain trecking miles everyday doing this |
lucrative | 01-23-2011 01:22 PM | cant you just change the ip and carry out the other required stealth set up techniques before logging in? |
Javelin | 01-23-2011 01:26 PM | Just as lucrative said.
Simple solution to all your problems matey; Change your IP address.
But first, we need to find out if your folks are using a modem connected directly
to the PC/Laptop or they are using a router or are using dialup.
If it's dialup, then no problemo.
If its a router, just turn it and turn it back on after 2 hours.
If its a modem connected to the PC, then you can do several
quick and easy things to get the IP changed.
Which of these setups are that of your mum and dad's? |
craigle | 01-23-2011 02:39 PM | thanks for helping me :)
they have the net connected to a main PC which isnt used, and wifi is throughout the house which everyone uses their laptops from |

Just turn the modem off first, then the router.
Leave them off for about 2 hours.
(That should give enough time for the router to acquire a new IP address)
Or to be more sure of acquiring a new IP address,
leave them off overnight.
Then after that time has passed.
Turn them back on; the modem first, then 10 seconds later the router.
And you should see the modem lights blink 2-4 times.
(It's acquiring a new IP address)
Then it will connect to the router and the router will establish a network.
And you are all set with your brand new IP,
that you and the rest of the laptops in the house will share.
Be careful though, do not get banned again on this current IP.
If you do, you will need to do the above steps with your router and modem
all over again.
It worked for me, it should work for you!
Hope this helps. :) |
craigle | 01-23-2011 03:01 PM | thank you very much!
so will i only have to do this once? or everytime i use my ebay profile setting on my laptop?
if i use the other profile where i dont use ebay, i wont need to do this will i?
sorry for sounding so clueless, im just not very tech with routers |
Javelin | 01-23-2011 03:12 PM | You will have to do this measure every time you want a new IP address.
Which you may only want to do with one Eb ay account.
Its okay if you use the same IP for other things online besides Eb ay
(Eb ay won't track your surfing of other sites, not that I am aware of,
unless their cookies are designed that way, which I have heard they are....)
Your safe man, once you do change your IP.
You do not need to change it every time you log into your Eb ay account.
Better to keep a static IP for that. If you keep on changing IPs,
who knows if their systems might get suspicious.
But what we do know is, that their way of weeding out accounts,
is and always will be ever changing.
Good luck in your quest man.
You and I were in the same boat not too long ago.... |
craigle | 01-24-2011 11:23 AM | Hi again,
ok so im back home and the net isnt connected to a main PC anymore. So im guessing its just wireless now plugged into the wall?
will this make it easier to use my other account so i can access ebay?? i havnt attempted to use that profile on my pc yet |
oompaloompa | 01-24-2011 04:55 PM | really you should have brought your own laptop for the visit but failing this, make a new user on the PC and plug in your own PAYG web and walk dongle, if you dont have one buy one they are useful. |
craigle | 01-24-2011 04:58 PM | i have bought my own laptop for the visit. Dongle is no longer with me also as my partner seems to have lost it in Egypt on holiday. Grrr! |
oompaloompa | 01-24-2011 05:00 PM | oh so its just the internet connection you are worried about? well if its wide ranging dynamic it should be ok, it woldnt link you, but your own dongle is quick to buy at local shop........ |
craigle | 01-24-2011 05:01 PM | thats right mate, just the net that i am worried about.
i am on a diffrent profile to use the net as to what my ebay is on. havnt been on that since the visit |
oompaloompa | 01-24-2011 05:05 PM | its the flash and cookies that could liink you on old PC, without a clean up, I would not touch it...
but the internet should be ok, especially after a long while and if it is a changing ip, I doubt you would be unlucky to have a repeat banned ip, if thats even possible...
In Eygpt huh, she will probably come back with the trots too no doubt...they all do... |
craigle | 01-24-2011 05:16 PM | haha he probally will
i think im just gonna leave that profile for the week, try and get to a cyber cafe at somepoint
cheers for the advice :) |
craigle | 01-25-2011 12:42 PM | Today i had a snoop around ebay on my main account, did a search for shops and looked up mine so i could check that the feedback hasnt changed (hasnt thankfully)
i didnt log in or anything, am i being paranoid worrying now that i shouldnt have done this? |
You did not log in 100%? Then no worries - you are safe. |
craigle | 01-25-2011 02:40 PM | no mate , didnt sign it at all |
densal | 01-25-2011 05:46 PM | only have to turn off my sky router for a couple of minutes and it changes the ip address failing that savers sell three dongles with credit for £9 99 or the did bought one three weeks ago |
