Paypal 21 Day Hold

Hi all.

Does anyone know what would happen if on ebay I enter an incorrect paypal email for payment in my listings?

Would this stop a payment going through and allow me to send an money request manually as a non ebay item and potentially avoiding the paypal hold?

Previously I have received the payment, refunded then sent an invoice. Im still waiting for payment to see if this works too.

More than happy if anyone has some insight on this.

Thanks

John

You are doing to much to bypass the 21 day hold. If you need the money that bad just ship out the item asap with a tracking number, as soon as it gets there your money will no longer be on "hold".

Another way is to contact the buyer through ebay which is what i do (what works for me might not work for you), and be straight forward with them, by letting them know that your money is on hold, that you need the money to ship out their item, and that you need them to leave positive feedback, so that pp will take your money off of hold. You can get creative with this, make sure to put it into your own words.

Thanks for the info but does anyone actually know if the method my original post would work?

Thanks

Is this still working? I mean release of funds after positive left? I think I read somewhere on the forum that paypal now holds 21 days regardless...

I believe when you enter the PP email, if its not valid eBay will see that and wont let the listing go through. I put in a misspelled email a couple weeks and got a "not valid" note.

Going this far to avoid the 21 day is a bit much. If caught you could hurt your accounts. The buyer may find it suspicious, I know I would. If you ship with tracking you can get the money in about a week or so. Thats annoying for sure, but not too bad. You have to beg for feedback sometimes.

Anyway, you will try avoid the 21 days no mater what advice is given, I can tell. So try a listing with a bad PP email and see. But if you enter a PP email that is somehow real out there the money will go to that person...

Feedback was working on my last account with 21 days about a month or so back. Actually, feedback was the only thing that did work for me. Shipping confirmation did nothing

Lyda 01-30-2011 01:44 PM

Yea, I think it was actually shipping confirmation I read about.. Thanks.

Thank goodness, i thought things changed while i've been away, but "fb" has always worked for me.

I can tell you that I purchased something last week, and as soon as I made the payment, it went to 'pending' stats (with the little hourglass icon). 2 days later, I got an email from the seller, saying that they misspelled the email address for Paypal, and that it was not going to complete. They contacted Paypal, who said the only solution was to cancel our original transaction, and to have me place the order again after the error was fixed in their listing.

Based on this I would say that no... the message you suggested will not work.

pod 01-30-2011 03:53 PM

Yes, thats right. I recall now this happened when I purchased to a bad email once. I had to call PP to get the payment canceled.

Now people have changed the email in the listing to another one then the one attached to eBay. How long it lasts is up in the air and all your accounts will get linked. So risking two accounts to speed up payment is a bad idea IMO

I messed up my paypal email once on ebay, using dot com instead of dot co dot uk and then sent them the correct email through ebay messages, and got no holds.

But not sure if you could do it for a long time, as that was just a one off error.

The one problem I did find with it was several of them had tried to pay through ebay, which most of them canceled but for one. That one would not pay through the correct email address and ignored all messages. When I tried to do an NPB I was not allowed.

So it could sting you if you sell higher priced items.

Don't kill 2 accounts for ONE PAYMENT!

lucrative 02-01-2011 03:25 PM

Just tried this for you on monday (yesterday) to see what happened.

Here is what i did.

New stealth eB and PP accounts.

Listed several items around £45.

Signed up for 2 gmail accounts very similar. Added them both to the PP profile. Confirmed one on PP but didnt confirm the other.

Added the unconfirmed one to eB lisitngs as my paypal address but the confirmed on to my actual eB account for fee payment.

Waited till some items sold today. Sure enough people paid through paypal but the payment shows as uncleared. I know as soon as they paid for the item as it alerts me to claim my payment. This allowed me to email them straight away and say sorry i made a slight error on my PP email add.

I ask them what there add is so i can "check on the payment" i then ask them to cancel it and i send them an invoice through PP. Sure enough the funds are received with no holds. I give it the old "sorry im new to ebay and it can be a bit confusing" and were all ok.

A bit of a long way around but for me this worked today and the money is ready to send to my bank. :thumb:

I hate the 21 day holds as much as the next guy, believe me. But this is just too much hassle to get the money faster IMO. And you will find buyers that drop sale when it gets complicated I'm sure

lucrative 02-01-2011 06:01 PM

I agree with you pod, once you get a few accounts rolling with items getting shipped out quickly and feedback coming in the hold isnt such a big deal.

It pains me to say it but if anything it actually improves my customer service somewhat:>

Dont let eB see that for gods sake, ha ha :smash:

Does the ol' refund work still?

To elaborate....Buyer makes payment of say £30, Paypal put on 21 day hold, you refund buyer £1. The other £29 is released from hold.

If this does still work, I wouldnt do it all the time though.

No, they put an end to that pretty soon after it was discovered

Feedback is the number one way to get it released faster
Shipping confirmation is next

Would I be right in thinking the 21 day hold stops after you hit 100 feedback?

Champ pod has spoken - don't try to subvert the system like this.

They change it from time to time it seems

But I believe last time I checked it was 100 feedback or 6 months

There is a link on the PP page that shows what you need before its lifted

kris 02-03-2011 02:33 PM

In my experience, the 21 day hold expires around the 4th month. This has happened on at least 2 of my accounts. Patience is the key!

seanws30 10-04-2011 01:04 PM

i have 2 ebay with 1 paypal. the first ebay has the 21 day holds has since day 1. the other ebay does not have holds. i think it might have something to do with the primary email address but dont quote me
