Can Paypal link me through an IP if I'm a buyer not logging into paypal?

Hi,

I've already used stealth ebay to set up a new paypal account, but it's not an account that will be used with ebay at all, but for a store.
If I process a test payment where I can pay by credit card (but NOT log into a paypal account - that is make a card payment using paypal's system to buy a product outside of ebay, but not use any specific email account) can they link me or my website in any way to my limited paypal account with the same IP?

Hope this makes sense, thanks so much for the help guys.

yes they will get ip

the other day i purchaed something from a website, it was a download so i put rubish address and used credit card in paypal to pay

i logged into EBAY the next day and it was under my address

If you use something like e-junkie to take you paypal payments details are not passed to paypal

Sorry I don't understand. This payment isn't connected to any paypal account, or ebay account. The only thing paypal was used for was to enter card details to make a website purchase. No logging in to a paypal account ocurred (Paypal can process card payments on websites without the need of an actual paypal account.)

All the same details are still collected, so I would try change your email before doing this, as you are still signing into the paypal site, even though it does not look like it.

I would also use a different user on your computer, as they will probably also be recording flash cookies.

It was with a different user, the problem was the stupid dongle was overrode by the wireless. :mad2:
Didn't know until too late.

The email used during payment is not registered with any paypal account.
The flash cookies are totally different.
No Paypal account was signed into

The only thing that's got a connection is the IP used during the transaction to a limited account.

Is that enough to screw you?

it depends if IP is same one as youve used to log in to paypal before. Usually ips change and it probably isnt..also you say you did not log in to paypal, so you just added a credit card, thats fine but what was the address? was it an address that would cause a link? not sure if understanding this right...anyway try not to worry, unless you had static ip you are prob ok

It was a static IP because of my O2 provider. That's the worry really. To be honest, in my mind they'll have a flag on their system saying an IP used with a previously limited PP account has made a payment by card to a new Paypal account - and that's what's worrying me. :pry:

How long does it usually take before they lay waste to you approximately, just so I can get a backup in order?

Thanks again.

"How long does it usually take" - very difficult to give concrete answer.

In your shoes, I would get backups ready right away - simple to do and better ease of mind.

All the best.

Thanks man, I actually can't stand much more of this. Seriously, **** paypal. Anyone recommend some alternatives apart from Moneybookers who offer decent services?
I'm trying to avoid bonafide merchant accounts like Sagepay because it takes such an awfully long time and a crap load of work to get going, so Paypal/Moneybookers style would be nice.
This is for a website by the way, not for Ebay selling.

i would give alert pay a try if you can wait ten days for your money.

i have found them to be very good to be honest, lower fees than paypal and only 3gbp to withdraw to your card (310) per withdrawal, takes 2-4 days to get there

i got a fully verified business account just by card verification, so you can be totally stealth if you want to be too, i have swapped 3 sites that i used cc now for and abandoned paypal all together and still pulling the same trade

Worth a look

Oh, very nice mate, thanks for that, I'll definitely give it a look now. Any alternative to Paypal is fine with me.

I have never been linked through an IP, as of yet but as others say better to be safe than sorry.

Have you tried Nochex, belongs to the RBS
Most website scripts have the Nochex set up ready to install and you only need to pay for the merchant account, which I think is fifty quid if you accept payments from overseas.

They do crap on auction sites but on websites they tend to do a lot better, as the buyers can pay with their cards rather than having an account.

Never linked through an IP? Interesting, are you the only case like this or are there others? Either way, fingers crossed the blip doesn't cause me any problems, but thanks for the Nochex recommendation, that's another for the potential backup list. As long as customers can make their payments that's really all that matters. Thanks for the advice mate!
