if you read the Ebay Stealth handbook its all described in there, just wondered if anyone from uk has done this?

ets 02-28-2011 01:20 PM

haha ive read ebay stealth and couldn't remember the term lol; thats why its important to reread..if you want to open a business account legally u have to register your company with the Companies House; you can also open a business bank account with the bank where you will receive bank card and business bank account.. Not sure if that answers your question..

matt770202 02-28-2011 06:46 PM

Thanks for that

Try this Business support, information and advice | Business Link

Or ask to see a business manager at your local bank, they have a lot of info.

you register at companies house, its been a long time since I did it, but it will cost probably under £100 for just a basic name, if you want to be VAT registered you need to go to HMRC as well.

You then use paperwork to open up bank account. (Remember though, it lets the tax office further in to your life, hassle, filing returns and wrong rebate or billing letters, always in their favour then ensue, plus they are always right....just saying)

Oompa it costs £20 to register a company

Azabon 03-01-2011 07:12 AM

It costs nothing to register for VAT, but I personally wouldnt advise that.

I think if you have a good relationship with your bank then they will open a 'Trading As' account with just a piece of headed paper. Abbey did for me a few years ago, but havent tried since they became Santander.

ets 03-01-2011 07:27 AM

wow i need to look into that..

oompaloompa 03-01-2011 08:28 AM

£20? ok thats good, I seem to remember in the end I paid a bit more.

I doubt very much a bank will allow a trading as name, worth asking, but things have tightened up so much in last few years with regard to procedure, I doubt its allowed...

ets 03-01-2011 08:45 AM

yeah ive just had my company registered and all they asked was £20 before that it was £1. for the bank I took my company registration etc to open my business bank account.. I have to look into trading with just a letterhead (i don't think thats the norm though)

matt770202 03-01-2011 11:30 AM

So can I be a sole trader and have a doing business as name which infact makes this a Trading As? or do i have to register the company witth companies house and be a director

you can call yourself anything and do business without registering up to certain financial limits,

Also, OP remember if you are wanting to do this partly not to reveal your real banned name, think about a pobox, as a business can be googled and the registered address (ie your banned home one,) can come up.

Just thought I'd chip in, I got a company name registered the other day for £15...

oompaloompa 03-04-2011 02:14 PM

those who have these £15-20 company names, how are you finding the tax enquiries?

I only have experience of real companies, as opposed to just registering a name, managed by accountant, with payroll etc, so they are a bit more involved....

Hi.Does anyone know how a non-uk resident can open a uk company and if one can also get a uk corporate bank account without having to come phsically to the uk.Also a link to a cheap uk incorporation services firm would be much appreciated. I would like to use these to open a uk business paypal account. Thanks

isitworththestress 03-09-2011 06:39 AM

That is a tricky one as most of the big companies in the UK are not registered in the UK. They are all busy tax dodging on the islands.
