How can I open bank account with more than 1 bank?

I went into HSBC bank today and told them I want to open new account with them. They asked me if I have already got bank account with other banks. I said yes. So they told me that I have to transfer everything into HSBC because I can't have bank account with 2 banks?!?!?!?

So what should I do? Are we allowed to be with more than 2 banks nowadays? or it's only HSBC problem.

rsot 04-01-2011 04:43 PM

Don't be suckered by them - you are allowed to have accounts elsewhere. Tell them you want to do business with them now and keep the other account for light purposes. You don't HAVE to transfer anything - unless there are laws in the UK I am not aware of ha but yeah, nonsense.

Imakemoney 04-01-2011 04:52 PM

Yeah ignore them ofcourse your allowed more than one bank account.

Best way to avoid all that rubbish is to open them online...however if you have a bad credit rating it can somtimes be tricky to open them with some banks.

Alps_a somewhatlegend 04-01-2011 11:34 PM

yep... dont listen to that staff member. Most staff in companies aint got a clue.

If you got time, you should complain coz it wrong info/lies.

Take pp for example. If you ring them up regarding something, a common answer from them is 'oh, there is a problem with the system' - which means they dont know.

Staff in banks in UK are the worst and thickest.

Most of the staff are relatives of other staff and have no common sense let alone education.

One day I went into Halifax (most of the staff there looked like my aunties and gran) and told them someone done ten grand fraud on my account. They gave me a form to fill out. I took the form home and what do you know... the fools gave me the wrong form - they gave me a form to open an account.

I rang them up and told them good luck and I aint got time of day for clueless people.

Conclusion - Alps needed to have a moan - soz!

Wait, someone defrauded one of your bank accounts of 10k and you were happy to go home with a form without resolving it in branch?

As for opening accounts, search the forum for accounts that dont do a credit check as opening lots of new account which do credit check you wont look good on file.

Have fun

Alps_a somewhatlegend 04-02-2011 09:33 AM

^ yep. This was a few years ago ( like nearly 10). I lost my cashcard on chrishmas eve... some git got hold of it and spent a load of money - I only had about 2 squid in there.

I had no overdraft or anything and when I try to go over my limit, no money comes out, but when the crooks used my card, they got 10k.

I am the kind of person who if I know I did nothing wrong, I dont have the time of day for it.

Its been ages now and I heard nothing of it. Funnily enough, I opened a halifax current recently for my new pp and its all good. As soon as my transfers go through, I am there at 1am getting my cash out machine. Even if it goes wrong... I dont care coz the life I have lived tells me... sod it!..... I own nothing, have nothing. What they gonna take from me... my boxers?.... peace out.

(halifax didnt care and sent me home with a wrong form, so why should I worry)

Prepaid bank account UK is the best way

Imakemoney 04-02-2011 12:03 PM

what prepaid banks do you talk of stealth master?

As far as im aware you still need a UK current (or possible some savings accounts such as Natwests first reserve) to operate paypal properly.

There are a couple of options, just click search the forum at the top of this page and you will find what your looking for.

Alps_a somewhatlegend 04-03-2011 01:00 AM

^ yes. I have been thinking about these lately.

Most charge about 12.50 a month, but its worth it if you are making profit.

Em_x 04-03-2011 06:52 AM

Search the forum for secure trust bank and some useful posts will appear.

As Alps has said, most cost £12.50 a month but it's definitely worth it if you're making a profit.

GreenBean 04-04-2011 01:30 AM

Why? I aint losing £12.50 to any bank, when there's plenty of High St banks that will not charge me to open accounts.:juggle:

Note, I'm also in Australia. But when I was last in the UK, I opened my bank accounts there. So if I can do it, residents need to be a bit more pro-active to find cheap/free alternatives.:juggle:

Alps_a somewhatlegend 04-04-2011 02:11 AM

^ I agree

Even though I earlier say I have been thinking about the 12.50/mth accounts, it is only a thought just incase for maybe a few years down the line - I panic like that and worry about what is going to happen in 3 years! - no good.

I like this list for UK
http://www.aspkin.com/forums/uk-ebay...sed-banks.html

Slowly working my way down the list

GreenBean 04-04-2011 02:41 AM

I have RBS, RBS, natwest, allied leicster or summat and did I mention RBS :spy:

Em_x 04-04-2011 12:15 PM

I'm going to apply for a load of banks this week me thinks :) I have natwest information coming through.

eBay King 04-04-2011 07:03 PM

Are any people having good success with Halifax EasyCash Account on PP?

Alps_a somewhatlegend 04-04-2011 10:57 PM

^ my one is still ok - been only 1.5 months since its been opened though so earlyish days.

To Em x ... I was going to do the same thing and open load in a week but I read on here somewhere it is wise to only open 1 or 2 a week. I think the member said it was coz if you open too many, people start poking their nose in (they explained and worded better than that!)
