Sky Netgear Broadband?

Does anyone use sky broadband with their netgear router?

I know if you turn it off it changes the ip address but its always to a local one and vie lost my list of ip addresses vie used in the past so don't know if I will be using one ive used before!

Does anyone know how to change the ip address to a different town further away from where I live?

Thanks in advance

To a different town - you need IP provider access from there. Only way I know off is either do a long-distance wifi connection using one of those new hi-tech modems that can search for all kinds of wifi or use dial-up.

what about mobile dongles?

Why are you attempting to get an IP located in a different 'town'?

That sort of geographical distance does not matter with eBay and PayPal.

So you are saying that at the moment, all your IP addresses assigned to you from SKY have been located in your town?

I was with BT and IP addresses were located all over a region of the UK.

As above, no need really but just play around with the m.a.c address untill your where you want to be if that makes sence.

I use similar routers.

Best bet is to buy a few of the same kind off ebay (so you know how to set them up quickly) and then stack them where your router is now.

Each time you switch account, switch router.

Always brings up interesting conversation when people come into my house :)

@Littlemorestealth, so does your IP not change when your restart one of the routers?

Yes for all my routers, if you switch it off for 10 seconds and put it back on, the IP address will change.

I know nothing about networks, but from what I've picked up, a link between 2 accounts can only be formed if there is a match from the same MAC address (the router) and the same IP.

If IP's are cycled in a host table with your provider, and your running a few accounts, pretty soon the odds of you hitting the same IP on the same MAC are high if you are letting the system choose a random new IP (by switching on and off).

If you use a new MAC and hence a new router for each account, it don't matter if your IP comes back around and matches. You have a new MAC, so to the system your a different person in a different location.

I understand I could go into my router and fix the IPs manually, but to me writing those down and changing them is a lot more work than just switching my leads :D

This has worked for me for several months now and no problems. Feel free to correct the above mind if anyone knows the exact info.

Because I know nothing about pooters and macs I just keep an XL log of all the IPs I use. I currently have over 200 used and never had a duplicate. I don't know how many BT have but I'm guessing it must run into millions. Switching between users I can get through 20 a day

I used to use a different machine for each account but now I use User Accounts on one old machine with XP

Tranny you keep a log with over 200 IPs? And you use an old computer to do your eBay stuff???

Man I apologise. I thought she was mocking me!

Yeah people have different methods, they all work if they follow the stealth principles.
