Posting eBay Items....Recorded or Standard?

So I have started selling my first items with my stelth account, I'm selling items with small profit margins, and am posting via Royal Mail Second Class recorded so I can have proof of postage if eBay request for it.

Draw back is I am paying around £1.69 for this service as opposed to £0.92 via second class standard delivery.

Is it worth the cost?

Do most of you guys use recorded or standard?

Most definately. Adding tracking numbers keeps PP & eBay happy and also stops any not so honest eBayers falsely claiming they haven't received the item.

I have to give this some thought but I think I will be forced to take my chances with this, I will find it difficult to compete with other sellers if I post via recorded as they all are posting via standerd and hence can offer a better price which ultimatly is what buyers are looking for. Unless of course you are a well established seller and can charge that bit extra for your proven track record.

what's the cost of the item - sale & wholesale?

I dont use recorded unless I feel the need to due to customer feedback/given/received and history, & the final value of the sale.
If I have sold multiples - then I will post recorded.
You need to weigh it up - I can honestly say that only about 1% of buyers claim not recieved, but I don't sell high value items.

If your not making any profit on them sending them recorded id send them standard.

Its all about the value of the item which i look at before deciding to post recorded or standard...

One of the items costs £0.92 and I am selling it for around £3.50 with a profit of £0.91 (after eBay/Paypal/Standard Delivery fees) if I sent via recorded profit would come down to about £0.15.

Then you need to ask yourself if its worth it and in your position Id say no.

You may get the odd guy scam you however in the long run I reckon you'd make more money, than money lost to people saying they havnt received the item.

Yeh I agree with you, will go for standard and see how it goes.

Although I need to take a few steps back I know I am listing too much, have sold my first two items today and have 6 active listings, one with a quantity of 5.

is it you who pays for the delivery???! why??

oompaloompa 11-07-2011 06:21 AM

^^ of course it is the buyer that pays postage but given there is competition and the lowest total price gets the sale then, you have to price postage so it will sell. For this product definately go for normal 2nd class.

I send recorded anything over £10 value.

people tend not to falsely claim non receipt for low value goods. If you do get a loss in post
you can get some of your money back in postage stamp compensation....

simple rule of thumb anything over £15 record it makes sense and anything over £100 special delivery
