Can A Premier, Verified Paypal Account Be Frozen Without Being Limited?

Hi guys.
I've got a UK Premier Account, Verified, and with sending/receiving limits lifted over a year ago (do I need to do it again?).

Currently have around £30 in my account. Anyway, last purchase I made online was a few days back. Yesterday I got "Payment error..the payment was rejected" on a retailer using Paypal which I've never seen before.

Tried it again, figuring the site might be screwy, it's still doing it.

Also, I was expecting some funds from a buyer yesterday and they aren't listed.

The CC attached to my Paypal account expires in a few months, so it's not that.

Can Paypal "freeze" an account without limiting it? Or is there some sort of temporary server problem I'm missing? This is something I've never encountered before.

Weclome to the forum :yar:

Quickest reply to your questions is YES.

Everything you mentioned can & does happen. It's paypal.

Server glitches happen. (far too often)

Is there any chance of troubles with your buyer :spy:

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. Well, one mystery solved..the retailer says they're having "issues" with Paypal and to keep trying or use a credit card to put the order through (even they said they're not great at resolving issues!). Or to contact them myself. (Re the "payment rejected" error yesterday).

As for the payment due from one buyer, I've still to contact them, expected funds a few days ago now.

I should also say that my Premier account now has a blue link beside it (On the My Account>Overview screen) which says "Account Type: Premier *upgrade*" which I can't remember seeing before. Or has that always been there?

Are there situations where PP *force* you to upgrade to a Business account?

I admit it, I'm paranoid about my account being nuked, took me nearly a week to get mine back to speed the last time. Lots of stress and lots of worry!

No they can't force you to upgrade to a business account but under certain circumstances it may be wise to do so.

Thanks for the (perhaps) passive aggressive reply, believe me, I spent hours trying to find out via search engines.

There's some discussion in the UK about Paypal/ebay forcing UK sellers/paypal holders to forcibly upgrade (they tend to get an email with a 30 day limit recommending they upgrade to Business beforehand), but the whys and wherefores seem a little cloudy.

I couldn't search on here properly last night as I had to be recommended by a moderator first (lots of posts come up censored. Does the blue "Upgrade" tab beside My Account>Overview "Account Type: Premier" mean anything?

Going to see if searching sheds any light now I can search these forums properly.

No, that link has been on everyones account for ages, I've got it on my premier account and I only use that for buying.
It's there for 'convenience' only
