Uk Bank account

Hi everyone,
I'm 17 and want to get back on ebay and paypal again. Can anyone tell me what bank account is most suitable and available to a 17 year old? Does it have to be a current account or can a savings account be used?
Thanks

It should be a basic/current account preferably (since savings accounts do not accept direct debit), although since you are 17 you will not be able to get a full current account yet. I used Nationwide's flex account back when I was underaged, but the only annoying part is that you MUST have your card with you to withdraw over the counter, even if you have ID with you; they would have to cancel the card before giving you any money with only ID in your possession, and you are limited to £500 maxmimum withdrawal without it. It is an idiotic policy and why I stopped using them as my "main" bank. Other than that it was adequate...

Barclays also have a young person's account for ages 16-19, which is effectively the same as their card cash ("basic") account. And since the card cash account is honestly the best bank account that I have used with PayPal (withdrawals going in in just 1 day and phake names being no problem), I would recommend it highly. I was able to open 5 of these at a time with no problem, but your mileage may vary...

Thanks very much for the information. Can I have more than one nationwide flex account? Does it accept different names ok?

Yes to both of those questions. You could just tell them that you need a few more accounts for to keep your money separate, if they asked you why.

You actually have somewhat of an "advantage" for now, which is that you don't have to worry about credit checks and such for now, since you will always be offered the "basic" (not implicitly basic like for the over 18s, but effectively they will be identical for you) account. When you get to 18 and need to open more "basic" accounts (which are always better than current accounts when you intend to open multiple), you could use the same excuse as I do these days, which is that you always get rejected for business/full current accounts so only want a basic account with no credit check or score, in order to not drive your credit history any further into the ground. I invented this one myself as it was the truth by the way, and it stopped them right in their tracks when they intended to market their "higher end" accounts to me.

Do you ask about Nationwide because you already have an account with them? They lost me as a customer, the day that they held my money ransom because I didn't bring my card, even though I had my passport and bank statement with me...
