Verifying with credit/debit card

Afternoon all.

I've set up a stealth PayPal account, with a similar name, different address, different DOB and phone number (eBay account is also set up with the same details). I've just been to my bankto get a new card . I should get the new one in the next couple of days. When I get the new card, I'm going back down the bank to change the address (temporarily) to the stealth accounts address (don't even need ID for that, good on Nationwide!). So, after all that waffle, my question is.....and I think I already know the answer...as the Visa debit details should be different (they were last time I had to order a new card) will it verify the address and such like without linking it to another account? My full name is never on the card (Mr D *******) so I presume I can just put the initial in when asked for first name.

Hope someone can answer this (there's enough info there!)

Cheers
Dave

Yes, providing the addresses match it will confirm your address.

Adding a card does not verify a p/p account adding and confirming a bank account does that.

It will ask you to put at least one full name not initials

Yeah, address will match. Barclay's bank account is being sorted out on Friday, so that'll be used for the 2 deposits

Would it not be easier and quicker to just buy a VCC from one of the approved sellers on here?

derbydave 07-11-2012 02:57 PM

thought about that, but that'll cost 13 quid. the way i'm doing it costs nothing

Asked and answered.

I would rather spend the £13 instead of adding any debit card in my name to EB/PP as they will just use it for 'Reccurring payments' to recover any fees or money you owe them should your stealth go t*** up. Trust me that payment method is a nightmare to cancel even if you cancel your card, just ask your bank about it, its a real headache.

In fact Google it now...

at least with a VCC you have the added layer of protection, just my 2 cents.

Let us know how you get on...

no need for me to google it. if the Visa debit card gets cancelled, and i get a new number, how are they going to recover any money if that particular card no longer exists? I know it's hard to cancel recurring Visa payments, which is why the bank advised me to get a new card the last time I had a problem with one (and Orange/TV licensing never got paid).

adding a card thats attached to your REAL bank account give your pp account strenth over a vcc.

As I said, check out some 'recurring payments' horror stories, where there have been cases where some companies can still make a claim for money owed even if the card number has changed, and I have also known people to have had that very problem.

At the end of the day its up to you, and I was only saying my 2 cents for whatever its worth...

derbydave 07-11-2012 05:42 PM

surely though, if they don't have my actual bank details (account number & sort code) then it's going to be difficult? And going by the numerous debt collection agency letters i've had (plus many more emails linked to email addresses of fictitious people made up in my wonderful mind) from both paypal and ebay, they usually go that route? i'll keep this updated, and if (or when!) i get screwed, i'll let you tell me "i told you so"! lol

yer like AA and stuff if you pay by card , its not the same thing as pp.

So how hard to eB/PP chase after fee's?

How many times will they try at withdraw by DD?

derbydave 07-13-2012 08:20 AM

PayPal take their fees automatically (from what i remember, they deduct it off money coming in straight away). As for eBay, as far as i know, they send you a few messages then get the debt collectors in. As for DD, never had PayPal trying to take money without my consent, and eBay never held my bank details so couldn't take anything by that way anyway. I'm sure other people have different experiences, but that was mine.
