Paypal Payment Hold on Ebay only?

Hello,

Today, I received an email from Paypal stating that every sales from now on will be put on hold for 21 days. I was quite shocked considering I have a perfect 100% record and 4.9 rating on all stars. Now I looked at the FAQ and the reasons for why they do this and on all the reasons, only one kind of points to my situation. I started selling in high volume from 100 items before to around 250 items now, but what I don't get is Ebay made the decision to increase our selling limits. They might as well not have bothered increasing our selling limits if they are going to do this.

Anyway, my other concern is that I operate a website and that accepts Paypal too, will the payments made on my website be affected as well by this hold or is it just an Ebay thing?

Thank you

Stay sitting down.

paypal applies holds for off ebay transactions too.

And while you are feeling miserable, go check out 'rolling reserves'.

That's another little gem from paypal.

You MUST bring yourself up to speed with all these nasties of paypal. :fight:

If you are using your own website, you should consider an alternative payment method as well.

The increase in limits most likely has nothing to do with the hold on your payments. They probably would have done that regardless. Gotta love how paypal operates.
It is possible that your other payments will be held as well. I had it happen to me. You wont know till you try though.

I'm hoping that not all off transactions are affected. I can do with a hold every now and then but not all the time as that would seriously affect the business. Any payment options that you guys can recommend? Do people even use Google Checkout that much?

Thank you

If it is every payment, then the account is not correctly 'made'. ( imo).

GCO is usable but your items may preclude its long term life span. ;)

Just learn to live with PayPal and their stupid policies. If you try to get customers to use anything else, you will notice a huge drop in successful/completed sales. Like with CCNow for example, I am lucky to get even 1/10 people to pay up. So I just stick with PayPal and learn how to play them. They will not play with me any more.

Far worse than 21 day holds

Usually 10% or 15% for 90 days

That does make things difficult - effectively you are waiting 90 days to turn your profit and in that 90 days Paypal can ....????

And that is why I turn and burn... I would just die if they held that much money on each and every account.

Still worth trying to get customers to pay via other means.

No it isn't, for the reason that I already outlined. It is a waste of time because regardless of what you say to them, 95% of customers will refuse to pay by anything other than PayPal. In fact it can even lose you sales because the customer may think of you as a "scammer" after your attempt to sway them to something more "secure"

Pretty sure this is a cross the pond thing.

Your side, I find buyers adapt to other choices.

On the better side, it's like dental extractions without pain relief. Buyers cling to 'we have to use paypal because it is wonderful and you might steal my 5 pence'

Mind set stinks.

Just my pov....:pound:
