| | | ad9a9 | 02-02-2013 10:29 AM | USB Dongle ip addresses Hi,
I have a few stealth accounts and have purchased an o2 usb dongle to switch between the accounts (was assuming IP address will change evertime i log in).
Ive noticed however, that although the ip address changes everytime i reset the dongle it also changes whilst im using it!!!! so there is a risk that it could revert to an ip address while im using it with one that ive used on my other account!!
Does anyone have a usb dongle that keeps the same ip address until you reset it, as opposed to changing whilst your using it (my o2 one changes every 20 mins roughly).
I want to buy a new usb dongle with another provider but want to make sure its one where ip address stays the same until you switch it off.
Thanks |
| oompaloompa | 02-02-2013 11:24 AM | I had o2 before but not in last year. it did not do that to me.
It is strange because if it changes whilst you use it there is a disconnection issue. Is it not signing you out of ebay/paypal? watch the mobile manager stats and see it it flashes 'disconnect' and then connects automatically.
If it does it alot and you see a repeat then maybe not a good idea but doubt o2 does many repeats plus ip is not the main linking issue, an ip that you used months ago is a different risk from one used same week, or if they just issue 10 ips to you. I expect o2 have practically if not totally a non-repeat range.
but if you are worried, buy another brand. None of them are supposed to disconnect/change ip unless you opt for it, so you might have a faulty dongle or sim. |
| Killuminati | 02-02-2013 12:35 PM | I made a thread on this before i had the same problem with o2 network and dongle i changed the dongle the problem still occurred |
| Batman | 02-02-2013 04:15 PM | im also looking to purchase a dongle not sure which one, pay as you go or pay monthly, check my thread i posted there.
im thinking to buy a preloaded pay as you go one with about 12gb. its like £80. |
| derbydave | 02-02-2013 07:43 PM | sounds like it could be 1 of 2 problems. 1 - poor reception so disconnects (likely) or 2 - your PC is turning it off (unlikely, though it can happen). check the power settings on your PC to make sure it's not turning it off USB devices |

in my post above ive included the tmobile offer as well as an o2 one, which one should i go for? |
| NoneOther | 02-04-2013 11:51 AM | Tether is connecting a device e.g tablet or laptop via wifi, usb or bluetooth to an internet enabled smartphone.
Not exactly a new concept so I'm surprised you haven't heard of it before. |

only joking but they do have the best u.k mobile internet.
There is no point asking anyone unless they live in your area, why? becuase dongal/3g operators have better coverage than others in different parts of the u.k.
when i used dongles , i cracked my own so i could use diffrent sims and tested them all, i used the one best for me. |

| turboman | 02-05-2013 02:17 PM | i smashed my 3 dongle to bits...absolute pants signal when they told me it was a super strong signal in my area code
i tether |
| Batman | 02-06-2013 10:45 AM | just bought the o2 dongle 10 pound a month 1g data, charged me a tenner for the dongle too, as long as it does the job im fine with it :) |

| Batman | 02-06-2013 05:11 PM | Rsot I bought another one, its literally the same thing different provider 10 a month 1gb a month, need to just connect it nw
update: ive connected it and its giving me new ips everytime but its giving me ips like 90.132.009.90
90.132.021.12
90.132.12.102
so its like the first and the second are the same but the rest are different.
does it matter much or..?
its sometimes kinda slow too i was thinking to cancel the contract and go with three maybe that gives better ips? |
| Stigger | 02-07-2013 03:56 AM | A dongle will be slow, Used to drive me mad, Really in the mood for a listing session and 15 mins to turn a page, im not sure there any good for people with content full listings, i just use broadband.
Regards your i.p's thats how its supposed to look, just a change in the last two digits are enough, just keep a log and never use same one between two accounts. |
| Batman | 02-07-2013 04:01 AM | oh right cool. because i thought getting something like 108.09.019.12 then 92.109.29.299 rather than 89.19.192.01 89.19.101.23 would be better but nevermind as long as it changed and its good enough then its cool. i was thinking to take it back and get a different one but il use it for a couple days see how it goes, if it still annoys me il get it changed. |

| SimpleX | 02-07-2013 02:50 PM | Guys I HIGHLY recommend mifi units such as the Huawei E586 boasting 3G speeds of up to 21Mbps, and can be had for £40 on eB. Thats faster than some peoples broadband speeds. USB dongles are soooo slow for multiple stealth's. |
| Furious George | 02-07-2013 05:36 PM | I know over here stateside, for short periods of time with verizon, the ip doesn't reset. Once I had to run a retail store on sprint using mobile broadband, and it would change ip's ever 4 hours or so. It was frustrating, because to access my POS system I had to use a static ip, so I'd have to change the ip that is given access about 4 times a day. |

| SimpleX | 02-08-2013 10:56 AM | Yep, just put the sim and your good to go. Can also connect multiple devices at once. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 01:39 AM. | |
