Default Dynamic IP Providers - UK

Good Evening All,

Can someone confirm to me please which current providers in the UK offer dynamic services.

From what I've read Sky Broadband & BT do, but is this the case in every instance because I've also read sometimes this is not the case.

Can someone clarify please?

Hi mate,

I thought they were all dynamic but to be honest, I couldn't say. I can't recall ever reading anything on here about BT having a Static IP. Sky, maybe but BT, no.

Hi dude,

I'm with SKy at the moment & have a dynamic IP, however getting quite a poor service so thinking of switching to BT too...

I do know that some people reported that not all of Sky's packages/routers were dynamic, so wondered if the same applied to BT....

Do you have the homehub ebayorbust?

Think some of the BT's have that dreaded 'sticky' IP.

Or is that SKY?

Or maybe both.

That Hub thingy is dynamic.

I've heard that not all of sky's routers are now dynamic - not sure if anyone else has had any experiences?

Seems my decision is between sky & BT now...

All broadband providers give u dynamic address with a long lease as standard.
All providers give the option of switching to a Static IP at a cost
VPN, playing online games are best for Static IP's
I don't play games or use a VPN
get a dongle on 02 or unlocked and put a giffgaff Sim in it job done this will run multiple stealth accounts
even better run 2 pc's so u can run your broadband on one and your stealth accounts on the other keeps it all safe and tidy!

Why don’t you want to use a VPN? Any internet providers keep logs on their customers regardless what IP (either static or dynamic) they offer.

What's the issue with that?

So long as the information isn't shared with ebay / paypal then it isn't a problem. The chances of that ever happening are extremely unlikely.

I'm with GiffGaff and as far as I can tell the IP is dynamic and can often change even while you are online, however I have noticed that sometime the IP address can be only 1 character different to previous ones that I've logged. Is there a chance that the same IP address could be reused and potentially cause a problem?

The best way to check if your IP is either static or dynamic, just disconnect and reconnect your modem and check if your IP has been changed or not

No they are not all DYNAMIC - I have SKY at home and it is a Static IP and I could try and turn it off 100 times and it wouldnt change!
