ebay below standard... What are the warning signs?

ok so my girlfriends account is below standard... Shipping within 3 days is no longer good enough for private sellers...

Anyway... Im confused, my business account was recently knocked off for the same reason but I was surprised as I was told it is now judged over a 12 month period and not a 3 month period like it was before. So many changes, its no wonder long time members cant keep up!

Anyway she has no selling limits yet, so on the next evaluation she should be ok right? You normally get selling limits before being pushed dont you? For the life of me I cant work out how long she has until its time for the big knock... Shes sold loads recently so the feedbacks pouring in, she didnt even realise the seller dashboard was there until the other month when I showed her... She has over 3000 positives and has had the account years... So shes now trying her best to save it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I know... Am working on it, shes trying to save hers!

If it's going to happen then it will happen. I would prepare for the worst and see what happens. get creating as many accounts as possible and think outside the box. Noone can tell you a definitive answer.

Why if you value your business why would you get sloppy with postage times, so much so that you loose the account?.. I don't understand?

ebanned 04-17-2013 06:31 PM

Mine was just a business account, which I forced into. Unfortunately I also hold down a job so can only get to the post office 2-3 times a week.

onlinegirl 04-17-2013 06:34 PM

Now I understand.

Does she understand the seller dashboard now?

Go over her business plan at once. Check if any amendments can be made with shipping. Is there any way, she could offer free shipping for a while? Free shipping = 5 stars.

As a matter of business, that dashboard should be checked weekly ( at least).

It is the same for you... have to keep on top of using ebay.
As you have found out they do not play nicely.

I think the general expectation with any online purchase, is that it ships sameday or at least next working day.

I work in a full-time job too but thankfully the nature of my job, my role and shift patterns allow me to get to the PO, 6 days a week. For some buyers, even this is not enough.

thedarkknight 04-18-2013 03:39 AM

Some buyers won't accept your only posting twice a week, if your Ill have several small children or your leg falls of, but a lot are really understanding and once they receive there item ( with some contact inbetween) will be fine, but you need to put on your listings something like 'due to other commitments I can on post items twice a week, I hope this is OK, if not please don't bid, thanks'.

Ebayorbust 04-18-2013 04:39 AM

Just had a message from a buyer. She purchased two items approx 45 minutes ago and wants to know exactly she is going to receive them.

I love ebay buyers. ;)

GreenBean 04-18-2013 04:46 AM

Why are you here then?

You should be running out to the Post Office to despatch already.

Shooo! Shooo! ( Another block the buyer needed ;))

I had a recent buyer asking me how long does it take to get to my post office - seriously? fug

It really is a joke. I post 6 days a week. Anything purchased before 3pm gets shipped that day.

I've picked up neutrals because delivery was longer than expected and have also had low DSRs for dispatch time.

OP, if you or your partner can't ship daily then I'd honestly say the account is a gonner at some point.

You can post whatever you want on your listings regarding dispatch but ebay buyers tend not to read. In my experience, I'm not sure it's either because they can't or they get so excited by the pictures in my listings they just "have to have it".

Either way, good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Yep this is what its like... eBay are creating monster buyers and are actively seeking them to punish sellers for not posting on sundays! Im curious to find out how big retailers stay on ebay as they generally post within 1-2 weeks on their main websites, this is just a thought. Ive been sticking things on her account to get more feedback in, theres no limits on her account yet so I guess shes safe for now. Ill just have to build it back up for her by selling items I never sold on my own.

What does annoy me is that if you have a bad week and are late with posting a few items and 3 buyers leave bad scores then your expected so sell tons of items just to get that score back down... What happens if someone doesnt have anything to sell, wouldnt it be impossible to catch back up?

The whole thing stinks... It looks like eBay is no longer a place for the public to sell their unwanted goods, which to me was the best thing about eBay from my personal buying point of view!

Ebayorbust 04-19-2013 02:48 PM

The rules don't apply to the big retailers.

SFBayer 04-19-2013 05:28 PM

I have to confess these sorts of issues baffle me. I haven't stepped foot in a post office in *years*. I have all my shipping supplies onhand, print postage and my postman picks up packages daily. If they're small enough I just use padded flat rate and put them directly into neighborhood blue mailboxes (even if postman has come for the day, I still like mailing packages same day if I can).

I have to say, for all it's faults the USPS makes shipping from home fairly painless once you get the rhythm down.

GreenBean 04-19-2013 06:30 PM

@SFBayer

Postal services in the UK are really different from those you have.

Buyers have unrealistic demands regardless of the country as well.

:pout:

SFBayer 04-19-2013 06:32 PM

Wish I had something more helpful to post.

GTB 04-20-2013 01:21 PM

if you cant make it to the post office every day

pay someone to do the run for you n the missus

DSR's are an absolute joke but you need to maintain them

describe every item in detail, reply to messages politely and in a timely manner, make sure you price P&P fairly (maybe explain in the listing why the P&P cost it is what it is) & finally last but not least, get your parcels shipped same day if not the next!!!

good luck
