Am I protected if somebody uses a dodgy credit card to buy my item ?
 

As I've been fraud-ed in the past like a few years ago when somebody bought an item from my eBay account I was left with a charge back on my account and it became a negative balance. I had to pay it back out of my pocket :mad:.


It was a few years ago... Has Paypal Rules changed or is it still the same ?

They say you're protected, but in my experience it depends on the amount and how much you're willing to fight it.

I think by default you automatically lose, you just need to annoy them to get it back lol

In my experience, no they don't protect sellers against charge backs, and the police will not do any to help either. Others may have different experience than me though.

The more established the account, the better chance of being protected. I have been very successful on a long standing account as long as I followed their rules. I have hear d differently but I do not know the age of those accounts

Would proof of delivery make Paypal refund the charge back ?

It is supposed to but obviously people have said otherwise. I would imagine there are many factors involved such as age of sellers account, age of buyers account , problem history on both sides, category of item sold,etc...

Listen to slim jim - I have had bad experience with chargebacks INTERNATIONALLY (Canada to USA shipping) - that I would say is low likelihood of protection

Just to second that, all my charge backs have been international, I have not had one domestically. You have to be very very careful shipping overseas.

As long as you write a full explanation and give them enough proof of shipment.
You will win the case. The best way to do this is that if you have a scanner , scan the receipt you paid for shipping fee along with the tracking number - > highlight or make note to the tracking number when you scan it -> now go to PayPal enter the tracking number exactly the same as the one you highlight on the receipt - > write some strong words clearly stating that you believe the buyer tried to scam you for free item.
- I've done this many times and always won cases. The chargeback for each transaction was around $150-$200 .

The answer is there is no definite yes or no reply.

Each case is on a case by case basis.

As the seller you have to cover yourself as fully as possible.

Whilst our USA users appear to have success, paypal UK can be less than honourable with how it treats sellers and charge backs.

If you get a charge back Paypal have to by law give the money to the bank.....its the law domestically.

world wide could be diffrent depending on the country the person files the charge back from.

You do get a chance to fight them but in my experiance You the seller lose

Would be interest to hear of anyone fighting them and winning.

it can also happen with Debit cards but there called unotherised transactions but amount to the same thing.

I have seen on the forum many who have fought and won and many who have fought and lost. Plenty of threads on it.
