To open a eBay account now needs a Phone number to confirm account ?

I registered a eBay account the other day just to buy something and it requested me to confirm the eBay account with a phone number.

I few months ago I never had to do this ....is this something new ?

P.S.

I never tried to create a sellers account.

Just use a prepaid SIM, or one of many number forwarding services. Been like this for a fair while.

Get a cheap 10 pound phone for ebay use or buy a SIM card for ebay use.

Nope. Been around for a while.

Pre-paid sims should do the trick.

(An account should have a phone number so it's no big deal).

Pre-paid Sims can do the trick but it is costly. I always advise people to use SipGate. You can get a local landline number (looks more legit) and answer the phone on your PC. You can use a standard headset or speakers and mic to talk to anyone. It works fine for verification. And it's completely FREE!

Also, you can have numerous telephone numbers going into one software and this will allow you to run multiple ebay stealth accounts at once with no problems with incoming calls. As opposed to using mobile numbers and then discarding them. And again being limited to one number per phone.

so ordering free SIM cards from EE/02/etc. or paying £1 per SIM at Tesco is costly?

do as others have said. just get a SIM (usually for a quid or free) and use it. it's also a good idea (if you have several stealth accounts) to put some sort of marker on the SIM card so you can identify which account it belongs to (i just put the initials of the stealth name on them in black marker).

phone forwards do the trick. 30/60/90 day. cheap. you can get burnt up CL ones dirt cheap.

jeffweico 06-07-2013 08:04 AM

I am in the US, not the UK and I am not up on the phone forwarding providers in the UK.

However, I would urge you to consider a paid service. I am against the use of the free services for stealth. Not because they are free, but because they are OVERUSED and if eBay gets a list of their numbers, you could lose an account.

Pay attention to jeffweico, free services tend to get to abused and BANNED by the platforms - you have to pay to play the game well - no cheapskating

Well, paying £1 per SIM is certainly more expensive than getting things for free.

My point for using VOIP is that it is far more convenient in the sense that you can have multiple numbers all being directed to one portal making it much easier to manage. In addition to this, if EB/PP/Customers ever tried to contact you at least they won't be getting through a switched off line.

This has caused problems for some people in the past as EB/PP do call sellers from time to time.

I have over 30 phone numbers with text+ app and never had a problem with them on ebay over 6 months there is long range of numbers.

Now u can get a number for free and text anyone and call anyone for free with who has the app , now if u need min to make non user calls than u can either go to earn minute page and download apps and get from 18- 40 min and there are a list with new apps everyday and after the points credit I just delete the apps I downloaded for points, another is to watch a 15 second trailer about apps so when I'm not doin anything I just put volume down and ever 15 sec watch a new trailer and earn 8 min per every min of video .

And than another way I use if I'm creating multiple lines and don't feel like downloading or watching videos for .99 cents u can load 50 minutes which is plenty .

And there are many numbers to choose every area code in every state also every providence in CA
