This is a common problem with PayPal, I had the same issue a few weeks ago.

Just called them and they keyed the bank details on over the phone.

Something is genuinely wrong with their rubbish server but it can be done over the phone by their support team in minutes.

For preference get another bank account as well

Lloyds is no good for stealth

They share info with PayPal

If this is for a stealth account then you need to avoid Lloyds.

Plus 'savings' accounts seem to be no good either.

I tend to agree.

Was a time where we only used current accounts or basic accounts.

This is the one thing I can't figure out. My many savings accounts and both current accounts both have the same sort code, i.e. the sort code for my home branch. How can PP differentiate?

Maybe by account number? But..... looking at my current and savings, this just can't be the case. Anyway, just wondering.....

Bank account validation services can provide information as to whether, for example, a bank account will accept direct debits etc.

Sort code identifies branch.

Account numbers identify type of account.

If you have two different accounts at a bank, check your numbers. You will see differences and these ID the type of account.

Majority of banks use this.

Account numbers are the key to identifying each account since you can bet MANY people have accounts at a specific branch (sort code identifies the branch, generic in use)
