Questions about using ebay from family home
 

Hello everyone, just recently joined the forum and bought the ebay stealth book. I'm a UK seller and heres my story in a nutshell - used all my family's ebay accounts to sell simple none branded things like hose pipes and steam cleaners, ended up getting delisted and limited selling restrictions for reasons im not really sure. :smash:

I can see most of the reasons how ive gone wrong, and i'd like to start fresh and would just like to open 1 account for now as i'm only doing ebay on the side to make some money. I could open ebay and paypal legit as i've never really been 100% suspended but there is an age issue.

Bought a new router today so i can work fresh with new ip addresses. My dad uses ebay on his own account (which ive used) to buy bits and bobs so should i worry about using the same ip address as him? (he will be using a different computer). Or should i make sure that every time we log in, we are using a different ip address?

As im only going to make 1 ebay+paypal account, do i still have to log my ip address in the excel spreadsheet?, not quite sure how that works.


I cant actually remember why i wrote this thread now and not sure whether ive asked all of my questions... :noidea: just a bit overwhelmed with all these threads - information overload! just need a few simple questions answered and any tips would be really helpful, guess i just need to go for it and find out myself

This part concerns me. If you are sharing the same network, then your accounts will eventually be linked together over time.

Unless your dad is using the high speed connection and you are using another/separate connection (mobile tethering). If however, you are on the same network, you will have the same external IP.

What about physical address? I'm assuming you are in the same household and your address would be the same. This would make a strong connection between your two accounts.

Continue reading the forum and best of luck. There are some flaws in your plan that need to be refined.

exactly!! We will be using the same network so its pretty hard not to be linked, my dads account doesn't have any problems, i've just had items delisted on there and his selling allowances went down. So if i opened a new account, they could be linked but would anything happen? Would it work if i changed the ip address every time either one of us logged in? my dads account is pretty sturdy, i just want to start my own account and stop using his!

I could use a different address, however if our ip addresses are linked, then his account says one address and then my account would say a different address - which obviously looks shady!!

No idea what to do. Might just set up account in real address and a variation of my name, then see what happens

If you do not have a internet connection point that only you use and you have total control over, you would be well advised to get one.

A USB Dongle or phone tethering would both achieve this.

If you use the same IP as your dad on eBay your accounts will get linked, and may both get closed.

For starters disregard rsot's advice about the IP. It is not correct.

Surprised he missed the fact you said your father has an ebay account at the same house. That is critical to your future plans.

If you make another account at this address, use the same IP, your father's account will likely be suspended because ebay will think he is trying to get around the selling limits.

You must understand ebay are strict with these types of rules.

ebay will not entertain your having a 2nd account running on the same network.

It is that obvious by all that you wrote you would endanger your Dad's account.

No account is sturdy with ebay. The fact your activity on it caused him issues now means more troubles could see a full on suspension.

If you wish to use ebay, you will need to make other safer arrangements.

Avoid even thinking of slighlty changing your name. ebay are not silly. They know all the trick users do.
You have to make a choice about getting your own account away from your Dad's.

I agree that advice could toast the entire families accounts at once.

Read the forum for the many ways to get your own ip.
