Ebay asked me to confirm 'other' account when I request higher selling limits!?

Hi folks!

On my current 'stealth' account I'm currently limited to selling 10 items per month up to the value of £650. Now I've been slowly selling small bits and pieces on this account to build up feedback and to prevent eBay / Paypal rumbling me. Anyway a couple of months have gone by and I clicked the 'Request higher selling limits' button thinking that I should easily be allowed to sell more items by now.

I was horrified when a screen came up asking me to confirm my 'other' ebay selling account by entering the ebay username of this account and address details....! WTF!?! This is something new that I've never come across! I've done everything by the book including renewing IP address / having different windows accounts, using CC cleaner to get rid of cookies etc. So why are they saying I've got another eBay account and asking me to confirm it before they will raise my selling limits?!?

This is the first time I've tried running multiple stealth accounts and I only have 2 which are both limited to selling 10 items per month. Like I said I've done everything by the book so whats going on here? Should I pretend I dont know what they are talking about or does it look like I've been caught out? If that is the case how long before I get banned? FFS! Its never ending isnt it? I really feel like jacking it all in and just getting a 9-5 job - heh heh heh!

Same thing happened to me. Asked me to confirm my other account and it would increase my (stealth) account to match the seller limit

I had a panic and just "cancelled" it

Haven't heard anything back last 48 hours !?!

Be interested to know what is anything this means as well.....

Thats interesting to hear that you've encountered the same thing BigDave, please let me know if you hear anything as it sounds like this happened to you a couple of days ago.

I wonder if this is some new tactic eBay have unleashed? Has anyone else ever experienced this problem when asking for selling limits to be increased? The thing is less than a year ago with a different stealth account after the first couple of months I requested the selling limit be increased and there was no problem whatsoever.

The only thing I'm doing differently here is that I'm running 2 x ebay / paypal stealth accounts, but I keep everything seperate on different windows accounts, and I check that the IP address has changed each time I use a different account and that all cookies etc have been removed.

I'm worried that I've been caught out somehow and its frustrating not knowing how this could have happened... What can I do? Any ideas anyone?

Don't get nervous this is just asking if u have an established account already and would like to link the two.
I did this with a new US account an my limits went from 10/1000 to 30/3000

Now these two ebay accounts are linked to the same Paypal and doing this I still need to be aware of the rules if I was allowed to sell 10 of a specific category on one account and move to the next to sell more this can be a reason for suspension because I'm circumventing seller limits

But if I sell in a different category may be ok, this is not recommended unless ur real comfortable with how ebay works.

If one account goes the other will follow

But there's nothing you did wrong

As I have posted elsewhere, the "Request Higher Limits" on UK Ebay is extremely glitchy and has been this way for several weeks now.

You haven't been linked or done anything wrong, so don't worry.

It jumps between Confirm Bank and Confirm Existing account. If you get the Confirm Existing account, hit Back on the browser and try again until you get the Confirm Bank account screen.

Even then, you are likely to get hit with load of "Something has gone wrong" and "Page Not Responding". Just keep going "Back" on the browser and try again.

Eventually it will go through.

That is just to make you nervous. Follow Ebayorbust's advice.

It is a 'orrible glitch that should go away. After all you do know you only have one account ;)

Thanks guys, that's reassuring as I thought I had done something wrong.

Suffice to say I have not tried to increase it again and as I'm in no rush, will let them do their thing and hopefully limits will just get raised in 90 days

Sell slowly and sell to your max limits on the account

Stealth lesson no 2 ( for tonight)

It is not a guarantee your limits will raise.

You may be hindered with your present paypal plans.

Consider that.

ebay 'prefers' to see an account with a verified paypal operating.

Re: Ebay asked me to confirm 'other' account when I request higher selling limits!?

Phew! Thats a relief to hear, thanks for getting back to me so soon, I think myself and BigDave will sleep easier knowing we havent been sussed out...

I'm just going to tinker on until they offer to raise the limits themselves after a few weeks I hope.

I've also been selling quite a few bits and pieces via Gumtree which has been good so far, I've always sold stuff via the classifieds ads and the Adtrader website, last year I started selling on Gumtree - only to people in my local area, but recently I've had quite a few people wanting to buy the item via mail order and offering to pay via bank transfer, or via Paypal as a gift. Its like going back to the good old days of eBay without all the stupid regulations in favour of the buyer only.

I think its because I'm dealing in specialist collectables that arent easy to find that people from all over the UK are contacting me via Gumtree but I'd definetely recommend it as another selling source if you are limited to selling on eBay.

Ironically I believe that eBay bought Gumtree a couple of years ago so god know what that could mean for the future...?

@johnnyleeds

AVOID paypal as a gift method like the plague with gumtree transactions.

Do not go there if you value your sanity and want 21 day holds to continue.

Thanks for the advice Greenie, I was considering this and only in the last week someone who bought an item from me off Gumtree who paid via Paypal has contacted me to say they want a refund as the item I sold them is apparently faulty - which is news to me..

I'll refund them once they return the item, however I dont know where I stand if they start making complaints to Paypal. I know it wasnt an eBay transaction but I still dont want anyone from Gumtree making waves that could affect my Paypal account that I use with eBay.

So I'm either considering creating a Gumtree only Paypal account, or else just saying I'll only accept payments for mail order goods via bank transfer or cheque / postal order.

Re: Ebay asked me to confirm 'other' account when I request higher selling limits!?

Let me give you one advice which I didn't listen because I am stubborn. Never ever contact Ebay for anything.

If you have problem with buyers - don't contact!
If you have problem with limits - don't contact!
If you have any other problem - don't contact!

Believe me. I read the very same advice on other forum (BHW) but didn't listen and once I started contacting Ebay my problems started with it. I think once you contact them it gives them a good signal that that person should be investigated thoroughly. It's some kind of reverse human psychology to determine and predict human behavior. They go through all your PMs and stuff manually and give you ban hammer.

I was starting to get all that nonsense notices. Then they asked me nicely what other accounts do I have so they could allow me selling again (I was selling with multiple accounts) and I was stupid giving them all details. Now they are all blocked even though I have all 100% feedback. I learn my lesson I guess. That's why I recently joined this forum and I am going stealth mode.

Re: Ebay asked me to confirm 'other' account when I request higher selling limits!?

Over a week later and I'm still getting the same response when I try increase my selling limits, I get taken to a webpage where I see the following message:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Request higher selling allowances
To sell more on eBay, confirm ownership of another account that you use to sell.
Here's how it works

Make sure you have another eBay account with a higher selling limit.
Enter your account user ID, phone number, and post code.
We'll send a PIN to the email address on file for the other account.
Enter the PIN to confirm ownership of the account.

If your other account has higher selling limits, the account with the lower selling limits will be increased to match the other account.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So they are saying I have to confirm the ID of my other ebay seller account and once I do they will raise my selling limit to the same level..?!?! Thing is as far as I'm aware they dont know about my other selling account, plus the selling limit on my other 'stealth' account is the same level as this 'stealth' account - 10 items per month / £650.

I've had these 2 accounts over 2 months now and I'd like to have the selling limit increased because only being able to sell 10 items per month on each account isnt very productive. I'm starting to worry again that maybe they have nobbled me... I hope not.

Re: Ebay asked me to confirm 'other' account when I request higher selling limits!?

Aha! I persisted with Ebayorbust's advice about clicking back to 'Request Higher Selling Limits' when I got the 'Confirm other account' notice and eventually I got a 'Confirm Bank Account with Paypal' option. There was quite a bit of messing about as it then kept saying error, but I got there in the end and I've had my selling limits raised by a whopping 15 items per month... whoopee... suppose its better than nowt tho. Right thanks for the helpful advice as ever folks!
