People opening cases for no reason

Is anyone else having this problem?

Over the last 2 weeks I must have had at least 3 cases a day opened against me for stupid thing like I wan't to change my address or please can you update me with a delivery date. none of these people are bothering to use the message system and it's driving me nuts!

Perhaps people just become cretins around this time of year I don't know?

Re: People opening cases for no reason

When someone just tries to simply contact you ebay automatically opens a case. I believe eb has been doing this since the beginning of the year. Kind of annoying.

It can happen around this holiday season - gift-giving...people wanting to send to different address

Re: People opening cases for no reason

Would this not count towards these BBE's I have been reading about recently?

It's got me worried because there doesn't appear to be much I can do about it.

I get plenty of other messages from people that don't open a case so I don't understand that.

Re: People opening cases for no reason

Open cases are no longer 'meant' to be counted against you, only cases that have been closed with eBay having to step in. That does not mean eBay will not look at them though

If dozens and dozens are opened then you can guess that something may come of it even if not are escalated.

Re: People opening cases for no reason

I was under the impression that just the opening of a case counted as a "bad buyer experience" or BBE and that could cause your account to be limited?

Hopefully I'm wrong!

Re: People opening cases for no reason

Luckily I have not had any this month or for a. While but this started while ago . Having cases for a question I had asked once why a case for a question they said it was an accident just figured was a lie

But i purchased ink and they Sent the wrong size cartridges and I went to message them and I accidentally opened a case myself by accident and as a seller was embarrassed and couldn't believe how ebay leads to do this

They are ridiculous making harder on sellers and they all count because I never had a case open more than an hour resolved and closed everyone but when I had to call guess what they looked at the cases that were closed by me and never escsted

Re: People opening cases for no reason

Once trust and safety looks at an account they view the whole thing and don't turn the page and look over thre cases opened they look at that first , another lie I experienced by ebay first hand

All about frequency of claims...and risk of products being sold...not so clear and dry about just the case opening

Hmm I see, nice and confusing. All my items are under £10 so hopefully I'm to to high risk then.

I have a legit account working which is old and has thousands of feedback, it doesnt happen with this account but on my stealth accounts it happens if someone asks when will their item be sent... Its really annoying!

Had a buyer open a case just to ask a simple question about delivery. Thanks for automating cases eBay!

Re: People opening cases for no reason

I read on Auctionbytes.com an interview where someone from eBay stated that the new system was put in place to help them evaluate sellers by categorizing customer problems. So, while a general inquiry probably wouldn't count against you, an "item not as described" case most likely would.

Luckily, I have had very few cases and hardly any for "item not as described". I would avoid those like the plague.

Its just another drain on their sellers energy... They wont be happy until we are dead and buried!

I was banned for this very reason. 13 cases opened in 1 month alone - 9 of them were for simple questions and the customers didnt even know they were opening cases. I sold a lot of personalised items so customers had to contact me to give me their details.

Because of the amount of cases I was creating a "bad buying experience" according to the CS rep........:ban?:

Re: People opening cases for no reason

Worst mistake ebay made introducing automated disputes....creates bad feeling on both sides. Do not understand the reasoning at all... I never get any disputes opened against me on Amazon (selling more items) but regularly opened on ebay for most trivial of reasons. I think in ten years times when ebay have been usurped ....yes it will happen...mistakes like this will be analysed to death.

Re: People opening cases for no reason

hi everyone, after my account got restricted a few buyers opened cases to take the money back. they said didn`t received the items. one of them was so cheeky. i sent her 6 items in 1 parcel, she claimed for 2 of them only because the rest i sold to her was out of ebay but paid with PP. she didn`t take the money back from PP for the whole amount , just opened a case. some people never stop being miserable.

I thought you were able to change the settings on ebay messaging so that you can actually get a message rather than ebay dealing with it?
