Chaning IP Address UK Cable with router
 

Hi, I have tried two different methods of checking my IP address and both give different results. The first was through one of the website that tells you automatically and the second was by entering ipconfig into the cmd command box. Does anyone know why I am getting two results (test performed within minutes of each other)?

Also, from reading the threads, there is so far no advice so far on how to change IP address using a cable modem hooked to a wireless router (UK). Any advice appreciated. Is it a simple matter of leaving the router / cable modem unplugged for a while and following the same instructions as for modem alone

What you need to know is: what IP does Internet websites see? Regardless of what you might see in a CMD window, sites like IPBurger and What is my IP Address, will show you what IP is being displayed.

your router has a different ip address, to your computer...thats why you get 2 ip address's

Okay, ebayyuk is half right. When connected through a router, and typing ipconfig into command you get something like this 192.168.0.1 right? That's your router... and as so mentioned in the eBay Stealth Book.

Okay to get your one and only IP address go to IP Burger - What is my IP Address? Find Your IP Address! or whatismyipaddress.com, that'll show you your ip address. That's all you need to worry about.

When using ipconfig you can't be connected to a router... if you're directly connected to a modem then you'll see your ip address otherwise you see the router ip address.
