Merchant Account question

From what I've read having a merchant account is a real advantage, but in terms of eBay UK it seems a bit redundant with the way it necessitates using paypal.

My question is, can a UK seller, sell using exclusively a merchant account if they list on .com rather than than the UK site. When I log on and view the payment from buyer options on each variation they appear differently.

And yes, my account is pre 2007.

Any thoughts?

My understanding is that you must offer PP as a payment option on eBay.

You can offer other payment options, but you must offer PP.
