eBay/Paypal Working With HMRC???
 
Maybe old news, but apparently HMRC are now targetting eBay sellers.

Got letter from HMRC recently, who are starting a tax investgation on me for selling on eBay.

Got in touch with a tax specialist, and they are saying ebay/paypal are giving details to HMRC now.

Just wondering if anybody had the same experience/investgation and what was your experience/outcome?

Yes this is old news.
The moment you hit the tax threshold for the year,
i am sure ebay will forward your details.
Especially if you are registered as a business.

You need to talk to an accountant.

If you sell on eBay you still need to pay the correct taxes.

and are you registered as a business? how much have you made this year with paypal - is the threshold 10K?

e/b or p/p cannot legally provide any info whatsoever to HMRC unless it is directly requested by them i.e. when and only when HMRC are already investigating an individuals tax affairs.

Any info provided/gained otherwise would be in breach of the Data Protection Act.

10k is the personal allowance.

All income regardless of amount must be declared.

If in doubt always seek professional advice
