Refused bank account?

I tried opening a online co op bank account and within 2 hours I had a email saying they could not offer me an account because my credit check had not passed?

I knew I didn't have great credit but iv recently opened a business account with Barclays plus current accounts with Barclays again, halifax and Santander so was suprised this did not go through?

Anyone else had any problems with poor credit and co op? Iv opened accounts with all the banks local to me so I now need to start opening online accounts so if anyone could give any suggestions would be most grateful

Re: Refused bank account?

Opening multiple bank accounts at different banks over a short period will start making banks refuse you.

You're opening the wrong type of account if they are doing credit checks

Ok that may be the problem. Is it safer to try open a few with one bank then move on to another?

It gave me two options a current account plus or a basic current account so I chose the standard current account? Did I do something wrong?

Well, it is explained all over this forum that you shouldn't be opening bank accounts that require credit checks. You can open accounts that are classed as 'basic accounts' that do not require credit checks only a basic ID check by adding a passport number or government ID.

The basic account is what you should always be choosing!

I would not attempt to open any more accounts for the next month or so. All attempts to open bank accounts leaves a "search" record on your credit report.

As above do not apply for current accounts as this results in a full credit check being done.

Thank you

Another lesson learnt.

Good Grief.

:faint:

Talk about a cat using up its nine lives.

That activity in opening so many accounts was what tripped the problem.

Hold off making any more accounts for a while.

Get a copy of your credit score to see what it says. You might be able to extract yourself from this mess IF you are careful.

Re: Refused bank account?

Your best bet would be to develop a good relationship with one bank. The best way to do that is to regularly deposit money into the account and maintain a decent balance.

I do the above. Main current account. Then, have more than 10 basic accounts with them. Numerous savers as well. They are OK with this 'cos I maintain a good relationship with them and explained to them:
"how I needed 1 basic account for 1 EB/PP account and each category of item sold equals 1 EB/PP account and 1 bank account".

Make up your own believable reasons/excuses, but the gist it, maintain a good relationship with one bank.
