Ebay UK phone problem
 

Hey guys, just joined the forum so...howdy!
And now to my plea, I have created a new UK account, for items taht are going to be sold and shipped from UK, but I am currently a resident of poland.
Everything worked fine til lI decided to sell an item, ebay wants me to add a phone number in order to validate blablabla, but whatever I type in just doesn't work.
After contacting their online help twice, I got a response to try in 24 h.
Clearly the have no idea what's going on, I've tried several cell numbers, and few 0800 virtual numbers, but nothing works. Customer support asked me if I have a 01 number. Do I really need to get a UK landline in order to pass validation?Or can I just use any VoIP / redirect using 01 or 02 numbers?
Just to clarify, I've red stealth guide and some posts regarding this issue on the forums, but just didn't find anything similar. Maybe just stupid, but deffo a newbie.

can't you use sipgate or soho as I know sipgate give you the area code you need, and i am assuming soho does the same?

Hi mate, head over to sipgate.co.uk and sign up.

You'll get a free UK number with a softphone (Phone software that allows for calls), I use this for UK eBay and it works like a charm.

Also other options available if these don't work.

Soho66 provides a good consistent service if you plan on keeping the number in use (which is a good idea in case ebay/paypal call)

After a short summer break I got onto the Ebay issue again, and sadly must report failure. Got myself a UK landline number, from Voipfone, redirected it to my cell and still Ebay is moaning about a valid phone number. I'm getting really annoyed here, nothing seem to work. I presume only UK phone is needed? Or do they require a UK adress in order to register? Might be the fact that I typed my polish adress and phone and account is registered in UK. Might sound stupid but I intended to do it the right way, so I gave my temporary residential adress.

I'm using a VPN connection but it still says I need to enter a valid area code and phone number, I'm just wondering if it's because I set up a personal account and the adress is in poland?

Quite simple. If the address is in Poland eBay is expecting a polish number and is automatically routing the call to the polish PSTN.

I've talked to , oddly, quite well informed and helpfull customer service consultant, and he stated that I simply need a Uk adress. Right now, using my polish adress, brithish ebay site doesn't recognize my phone as a valid number, and using my polish phone does' t work simply because it's british site. I'll try to use a proper british adress and keep this post updated.

Update as promised : asked my friend if I could use his british adress and indeed it made whole process easy. Big thatnks to everyone who bothered to respond and shed some light!
