Default UK Ebay & UK Paypal Stealth Updates

PAYPAL

With the "new look" Paypal it is difficult to see the verification status of the account.

Click on the link:-

"See how much money you can send with Paypal"

This will show the limits that are in place on the account. A verified Paypal account with receiving limit in place, will ONLY show the receiving limit when clicking on the link.

An unverified account will show the sending, withdrawing and receiving limits.

If the account has had ALL limits lifted then basically NOTHING will happen when you click on the link. The page will just refresh.

EBAY UK - IMPORTANT

For some time now it has become increasingly harder to lift the starting limits on a personal account from 10/£650 to 25/£750. Once you click on the link and confirm the account information, it now nearly always defaults to "Confirm Your Other Ebay Account" as opposed to "Confirm Bank Account" or "Send letter with PIN"

The explanation is that Ebay are now running a KYC (Know Your Customer) check on the name and address when you confirm the account information. When the check fails (and it will due to the account being stealth) the only option you have to raise the initial limits is to confirm another ebay account.

This system has actually been running for several months now but it hasn't been very robust and many accounts would still go to the "Confirm Bank Account" screen. They have now managed to get this working with nearly 100% accuracy and it is only one stealth account in about 30 that will go to the "Confirm Bank" screen (in my experience).

Remember this ONLY affects the starting limits that are possible with UK stealth accounts. Natural limit increases are still easily achieved by maximising existing limits and maintaining good selling practices.

I have seen this stuff recently on german ebay.

When you register they immediately check your schufa id - before they allow you to sign up they perform the check if the person even exists.

The crazy thing: I have created a new account using a family members id and they still checked my details prforming a KYC - even though I have used all new information.

I see it becoming more difficult to bypass those new checks ebay has in place - because you can't use person names that don't exist.

Anyone has any ideas on that especially for german ebay?

That's correct. You don't bypass the check.

A KYC check can never be that robust. People move all the time. This type of information does not immediately update. Ebay will not close your account because it failed an electronic check. Worst case scenario is they will ask for ID to be submitted.

How reliable these systems are very much comes down to how data is held in the respective country. The UK is fairly "backward" when it comes to resolving credit data. They still resolve an individual's credit records to an address. As soon as you start to look at House names instead of numbers and blocks of flats eg Flat A, B, C etc, problems can start to happen.

The US system is far better. They use SSN as the main search parameter which makes KYC checks far more reliable. This is why US ebay are able to create public database questions that enable higher starting limits when passed.

Last night on the phone to paypal, I was calling to manually add a bank account that wouldn't add on the site.

They wanted to ask me some questions from my credit profile.

Interestingly they don't use equifax for the questions.

I didn't hang on the line to find out what they would do if I failed the questions, or more likely they were not able to generate any.

In addition to the above posted by Ebayorbust, it isn't only the fact that the KYC check will inevitably fail as he has stated, but lots of the time it won't actually get to the ' Confirm your other account', it will send out the PIN. 7/7 accounts over the last 48 hours haven't got to the 'Confirm your other selling account', however 3-4 days ago it was.

Personally, it was only moving over to 'Confirm your other selling account' when the KYC system check failed but that seems to have changed rapidly over the last couple of days. They seem to want to be sending out the PIN to the address for then the seller to increase the limits once received.

Once you have clicked the increase limits and a PIN prompt has shown on the screen, there is no point in even trying to increase the limits via Chat/Phone as they can see the system generated a letter.

Also, having tested a couple of accounts you WILL find on personal accounts that if you do receive higher limits from the outset, if you DO NOT maximise this limit in the first month of receiving the limit increase your selling limit will now revert to the total amount sold on the 1st of the month.

Example: Account open 28th August - Limit increase 01st Sept to 80 items - list to the maximum allowed and only 40 items sell by the time the 1st October comes round your limit will now go to the 40 items until you sell to the full potential on the account.

Just thought I would post my own experience.
